A cheapie with a million-dollar view
The Ali Baba is a cheap and cheerful budget hotel right across the street from one of Istanbul's fanciest international chains (the Four Seasons, which incidentally, is housed in a beautiful old building, apparently a former Ottoman prison). I stayed at the Ali Baba for four days and was perfectly happy with it ... but bear in mind that in a hotel I only seek convenient location, cleanliness and friendliness, not luxury.
Heading upstairs to the breakfast terrace on the first day I stopped in my tracks: the view was stupendous! The Aya Sofya on one side, the Blue Mosque on the other and before us the Sea of Marmara. A great place to take your morning tea....
