hand made suede jackets
by corasmaldone
Does anyone know where the area is in the grand bazaar that they make hand made suede jackets and skirts, I would love to have a jacket made while I'm visiting for two days. Is that possible.

You can find it at Grand Bazar for sure and there are many clothing/textiles/leather shops around Laleli area.

Try Golden Horn leather fashion, right near the Cistern, on Yerebatan caddesi across from the Tourism police. The website is www.istanbulguide.net/goldenhorn.htm. Tel (0212) 5229723. I visited this leather shop/workshop when I was in Istanbul. They have beautiful off the rack leather clothing but but you can also get every piece there custom-made in any color or size. The owner, Ali Sener (or maybe he was just their PR person), was very charming and speaks excellent English.

The leather area of the Grand Bazaar has many different shops that would suit. Otherwise, as Gila suggests, there are shops also outside the bazaar which may be cheaper.
Travel Tips for Istanbul
coffee
by say-no-more
when i was at the top of the galata tower i looked down and saw a great little caffe bar just under the walls of the tower. so i went there to have some turkish coffee in a real turkish ambience, with colorful cushins and carpets and nargilas all over the place:) it was perfect! and the waiter was really nice, i didn't have enough money for the coffee (i only had big bills and he didn't have change), so he chardged me much less! :) and he even took my picture:)
Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet)
by SirRichard
Also known as Sultan Hammet, is smaller than Hagia Sophia, but much more intensely decorated. Its name comes from the blue tiles on the walls.
Go inside, take off your shoes and sit down for a while (more than 10 minutes and no photos, please!!) and relax, hear the silence, look up to the thousand lamps. That's one of my best memories of Istanbul!
Open 8-18, free entrance.

In Portugal we use to say that "one image speaks more than 1000 words". Having that in mind, and more than 1000 pictures to post, I decided to change my behaviour, posting the pictures as soon as they are ready, and adding the comments later.
Don't get mad on me - I'm glad to share my pictures with you, and the comments will be added soon.
Polonezkoy - A daily escape from the Metropol
by galatian
Polonezkoy is one of the surprising rural settlement - just 20 minutes drive from the TEM Highway. Polonezkoy is a village, established by Polish, and still Polish based citizens living. A beatiful countryside with country houses to stay and feel nature very near to densely growth of Istanbul..Have a walk on the paths through the forest, get good meal in the village...there is also interesting small lakes suprisingly appears in the valleys...
Fountains
by SirRichard
Istanbul is a city full of fountains (cesme). Most of them are around the mosques, for religious purposes, but there are also decorative fountains, some stuck to walls, some in parks, made of marble, made of stone. If you dare to drink from the tap, you will never be thirsty in Istanbul…

Q: day boat trip to black sea at end of November? "Hi!
I'll be in Istanbul in the last week of November and first week of December. Do the boats still run to the Black Sea for..."
A: "I don't know if they will run then, but anyway they don't quite go all the way to the Black Sea, only nearly."
