 | Allstar Kent Hotel: Fine location and service

I chose this hotel for my second visit to Istanbul as I wanted some comfort - I was travelling with my mother - and an old-city location. Despite the works going on (they're changing the ugly 70s facade to one more appropriate for the area) we were happy here. The rooms were comfortable, the breakfast spread varied, and all staff very helpful and polite. The location turned out to be better than I'd thought (it was a last minute decision and I couldn't find a place in Sultanahmet) as it was bang on the tramway stop, very convenient for all the sights and transport links (three stops to Sultanhmet, one to the covered market, four stops to the European train station, five to Eminonu where the boats are). We had two rooms (they moved us because of the works) - the first faced Ordu Caddesi but this was not a problem as soundproofing is very good. The second had a sea view, but as it faced west it got almost too warm (temperatures were in the 20s C in April) - though this is unlikely to be a problem in summer when you can just turn up the A/C. Only problem I had with this place was that their curtains were not very dark, so maybe not a good choice if you're a light sleeper! The price was 80 Euro for two people - not bad at all for a four-star!
Located very near the Laleli tramway stop, convenient for getting around.
