Hi All.
I am planning to visit Istanbul on 17 November. That will be the second day of the Grand Hajj Eid (Eid al Adha).
So I have few questions:
1- Will the markets, shops, and restaurant be closed on that day?
2- Will everything be crowded?
3- Will I be able to visit the local baths (hammam sinan) or will they be closed or crowded?
Thanks.

Hi VidER,
I have never heard the words Grand Hajj Eid and Eid al Adha, but I checked the calendar and I guess you mean Feast of Sacrifice.
1. All markets and restaurants will be open. Most shops close only at first day, and open next day. Some stay closed more. These are valid for the regular places. The most touristic shopping place Grand Bazaar is closed 4 days of the Holiday, and also on Sunday.
2. Yes, it will be crowded. The poor people from suburbs who can not afford to go to holiday will flow to central parts of the city. A lot of inconvenient people around. More crowds, fightings, noise than usual.
3. Touristic hamams will be open.
Best wishes,
Alper

Crusader, Ottoman, 19th & 20th century European create a melange of style for the city. The earlier periods attract the tourists, but there there is also a degree of elegance in the 19th century city around Taksim.
Turkish delight (lokum) are typical candies which I found delicious and were the cause of some extra pounds I gained in Turkey and after I came back home ( I bought several boxes, lol).
They are available in different varieties and flavours of lokum: plain, rose, pistachio, hazelnut, walnut, almond, coconut and almond, cream, mint, mastic, fruit flavoured, date, cinnamon, ginger, and coffee.
The best place to buy them is in its original shop of " Ali Muhiddin Haci Bekir ", its inventor. The shop was established in 1777 and still belongs to his descendants. The best Trukish Delight ! You can find the shop in Taksim center: Ýstiklal Cad. No.127 / 6 34433 Beyoðlu.
Forget about organized 'tourist excursions'.
Ferry leaves daily from Eminou at 10:45, you can buy return ticket for 7.5 TL (about 4E).
You will arrive at Anadolu Kavagi (the last village on Asian side of Bosporus) at 12:00.
Ferry goes back at 15:00.
The boat trip is more than interesting by itself, but when you arrive at A. Kavagi
don't forget to climb to the top of the hill where the ruins of old tower are and enjoy in scenery.
Take a fish meal in one of restaurants, prices are lower than in Istanbul.
Selimiye Barracks is a Turkish army barracks located in the Üsküdar district on the Asian part of Istanbul. It was built first in 1800 by Sultan Selim III for the soldiers of the newly established regular army in frame of the Ottoman military reform efforts "Nizam-i Cedid" (literally "New Order").
The northmost tower of the Selimiye Barracks building is today a museum, and in several of its rooms, relics and reproductions relevant to Florence Nightingale and her nurses are on exhibition.
