Shops' openning hours in Istanbul

by Elena_blue

Hi all!
Which are the openning hours for the shops in Istanbul? Are they open all afternoons on weekdays? Until what time are they open in the evening?
Thank you!

Most shops open in the morning between 8 to 10 am and they are all open during the afternoons on weekdays and even weekends. Usually the shops on busy streets and shopping malls will be open until 9 to 10 pm. In Istanbul, business is on 24/7 so you will find all shops open during the hours I indicated above.

We do not have "siesta" in Turkey, if this is what you are asking for. As replied in previous message, shops are open from 9:00 am to late in the evening. This is longer in summer time. Shopping malls are open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, longer during weekends.

You should keep in mind open at 10 am close at 8 pm.

Travel Tips for Istanbul

Have a nice boat trip by bosphorus

by galatian

"The Bosphorus" - the strait between Asia and Europe continents, and the topography of the city, lots of hills, a lot of vista points - makes this historical city special...

Having a boat trip at Bosphorus is a "must see" activity for new comers...

Only once in 1954 the straits got iced and this is the only picture I found about this extraordinary event....

Topkapi Palace, Harem

by bugulma

In the second court you can visit Harem where Sultan's mother lived and Sultan spent time too. The architecture is nice as well as interior of rooms and baths. The visit is available with guide only.

Turks are a mix of ethnicities and it can't be better reflected in Istanbul. I was truly delighted to watch how different values can coexist peacefully in the same place. Sometimes you think they have more in common with each other than they care to admit.

There are lots of people of Turkish
origin living in Germany, descendants of immigrants in the 1960's. So, we also have a Virtual Turkish Online Community in Germany, called 'Vaybee'! It's in German and Turkish language and pretty well done! Check it out!

Istanbul From 200m. by Balloon

by Arkeolog

When you visit Istanbul, you can watch Istanbul up above 200 meters in a Balloon. Turk Balloon is the project name and Kadikoy Municipality is arranging this activity. A huge balloon which can carry up to 30 people at one time is rising up 200 meters above the sea level. The balloon moves only up and down.

The Balloon is taking off near from the Sea bus port at Kadikoy, The Port on the Asian Side. If you take a ferry from Eminonu to Kadikoy, it will take you to Kadikoy ferry port in 25 minutes.. There you need to walk around 150 meters to the Sea bus port to the right side.. and the base for the Balloon is there.. Due to the size of the Balloon you can see it easily :)

The price of the Balloon ride is 15TL. Roughly 10,- USD. The balloon is operating from 09:00 to 18:00, however it is being affected from weather conditions. So windy and rainy days they do not operate.

At the top point i felt little different but my 5 years old daughter Lidya encouraged me with her big smile :) View is great anyway...
