A Gem of a Hotel

We have just spent a week at the Asmali Konak Hotel, our first trip to Istanbul. We wanted to stay in a small hotel in Sultanahmet and picked this one from several available on the strength of the Trip Advisor reviews. The hotel certainly lived up to expectations. We felt more as though we were staying with friends in a private house than in a hotel. Our room on the 3rd floor was clean and beautifully furnished. The bathroom was similarly well appointed. The only niggle about the bathroom was that, because of the shower door frame over the bath, the step in was rather on the high side and might prove difficult for someone with mobility problems. The dining room was well laid out and the buffet breakfast was good. We were also able to take breakfast on the rooftop terrace on 3 mornings which was a wonderful experince as we could watch the ships in the Sea of Marmara. We were very impressed by service from and attitude of the hotel staff. The owner in particular went out of his way to provide us with information and assistance. We asked him to make a restaurant reservation for us and not only did he do that but when we came down from our room to go to the restaurant he insisted on driving us to it . The hotel is perfrctly situated within easy walking distance of all the major sites. We would like to return to Istanbul and if we do we will certainly try to stay at the Asmali Konak again.
Lovely hotel - Outstanding hospitality

It's a shame that more hotels don't work as hard as Asmali Konak to make you comfortable, welcome and accommodated.
I stayed at Asmali for 2 nights at the end of September 07 - I was meeting my brother in Istanbul who was going to be staying with me. The room I was showed to originally was a bit too small for myself and my brother to comfortably stay. When I mentioned this I was immeditely moved to one of the gorgeous suites with no additional charge.
Through my stay the manager and his family were very kind, offering advice, phoning taxi drivers to give them directions (when my brother and his taxi got lost on the way to the hotel!) - they even permitted my brother's girlfriend to stay on the last night as she lived too far away.
I've not stayed very many places where you actually feel the management truly has the attitude that the guest matters most (or at least not without paying ridiculous prices) but this is a small, friendly, very comfortable and beautiful family hotel, reasonably priced that does just that.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Many thoughtful touches make a great stay

I found it very hard trying to pick a hotel in Istanbul: everywhere I looked prided themselves on great service, offered breakfast, and boasted great views of the city -- how do you take a chance on just one?
Asmali Konak didn't disappoint. It does offer all of those things: for such a small hotel, there is staff available 24/7 for whatever you need. The service is good, and you can tell the owners are constantly striving to provide litle extras that make the hotel experience very nice... everything from the basics like an assortment of toiletries, to slippers, to the small oil lamp that appeared with my name on it. The airport transfer service made getting there easy and went without a hitch. They will help you book excursions in the city, and the Bosphorus cruise tour they arranged for us was one of the highlights of our trip (and a very good value for a day's sightseeing).
Breakfast was good, and the roof terrace does have a wonderful view.
The hotel's location is perfect. Tucked away in a quiet, safe neighborhood, it's in good walking distance to the Blue Mosque and to other sightseeing areas, retaurants, and the tram that runs through Sultanahmet. It is not so close to the Blue Mosque that you have the call to prayer as an alarm clock!
The rooms are very nice. It's obvious that special attention was lavished on the bathrooms, which are bright, spacious, and clean, with showers that always have hot water and are so refreshing before or after a day out. There are other good touches like an in-room minibar, safe, and TV with DVD player. The only drawback is that the walls in the house are thin, so sounds carry very well inside and may be hard if you are a light sleeper. I am not, so still a great experience for me!

We spent a week in Istanbul and being my 2nd trip in 5 years. The hotel is a family run establishment and it makes you feel at home. They will make you feel safe and welcome!
The distance to the core of Sultanahmet may be gruelling for old folks, but the location is still within the vicinity of the historical monuments. My parents are in their 60s and yet they love the mansion despite the daily walks to and fro against the wintry wind.
Service is commendable and we are never tired of the same selection of food. Nazia, a sweet housemaid deserves every praise for the great breakfast and housekeeping. We are early riser and got our scrumptious meal before 8a.m! They seem to take note of our morning routine hehe. The room was always made up with change of towels daily. Honest housekeeping makes you feel that you are in Singapore ,where your jewellery will never be stolen even if it is placed on the table. Of course you should locked the door before you leave!
Our room is a suite number 301. Unfortunately, there is no jacuzzi tub as posted by our fellow reviewer just a normal tub and shower for ours. We like our comfortable, cosy room with a nice extra bed for me and windows that look out to the street.
I do hope they keep up their good hotel management standard. They have honoured their promises as agreed through email . I am so contented with the hotel and will be back again even for a 2 nites stopover in Istanbul if i ever fly on THY to Europe.
I love Asmali Konak never regretted the choice I have made over 2 others in the same district of Kucuk Aya Sofya.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights in this nice and warm hotel.
Room is clean, staffs are warmhearted(they spent hours to help me connect my PDA to the hotel wireless lan).
The terrace has a very beautiful seaview, we had breakfast there. although it's a little bit cold in the morning, but worthy :-).
Hotel is in center position of Sultanamet, we walk to most of the tour sites, like blue mosque.
I recommend Asmali to others who will visit Istanbul.

A Home far from Home...

I've booked this hotel trough the hrs.com homepage. I wanted a hotel with a very early check-in and a very late c/o (who doesn't..)
We arrived at 7:30 am and could check-in. Since we booked a regular double room I think we got a suite....they were to decent to tell us....
Since it was the holy month of Ramadan we got our breakfast at about 4 am...they were very obliging. The next day the check out was about 15:30 but our train to Eskisehir was at 23:30, so we did the c/o at about 11am but we left our luggage there and when we came back at 22pm...we were allowed to use another room to freshen up ourselves we were even allowed to use the shower...and all without extra CHARGE....I mean if this is not hospitality then what else is it???
The hotel was also very clean....respect..
By the way..I work in Switzerland in a 5 star luxury design hotel as a nightaudit.....
Thanks again to the hotel staff..:-)

After our holidays in South-Ethiopia, this hotel was really superb.
Our room was clean, spatious as well as the bathroom with supersoft towels and very quiet.
The manager and other staff were very friendly and did everything tto make our stay as comfortable as possible.
Breakfast was very complete with everything we deserved. The location is very good, only a few minutes from all major mosks. We can recommend this hotel to everyone for its excellent price/quality report and if we go back to IIstanbul, we will not hesitate to book the same hotel.

Best location for a good price

We arrived to Istanbul from Nothern Cyprus, where we`ve stayed in a 5-star hotel near the sea in Girne. Searching the byzantium architectural monuments in Stambul, we were walking near the church of St. Sergius and Vakh. Very tired we were very happy to find such a good hotel just in the center near the old stiled houses.
Very friendly staff, the warm atmosphere and the possibility of being in 5 minutes walking from Aya Sofia is what we wanted and what we`ll remember.

Peaceful location and good service
by TripAdvisor Member Krisostomus
I was happy to have ended up in this hotel after my first choice got fully booked. The reception was friendly and very helpful. Peaceful and nice area, just minutes from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Topkapi a little bit further. Room was excellent (a broken lightbulb was changed immediately) nice and clean, wifi was free, and roof terrace has a great view. On the downside, arriving to breakfast half an hour before the end, most of the food trays were almost empty and were not replenished before cleaning them away, but that did not really harm the overall impression too much.

Ha ha ha "para pesin kirmizi mesin" :)
Touristic places and museums do not close at Bayram, they just follow their usual schedule, most of them are closed Monday or Tuesday.
