Side Hotel and Pension
  • Tip Rating:
  • Side Pension and Hotel is in Sultanahmet area, just a few minutes walk from Aya Sofya and Blue mosque. It's on a quiet street. Breakfast is served on the roof from where there is a nice view over the blue mosque (don't forget to go up and have a look at the view at nighttime as well). In the pension lobby there is free tea and a television. It's a nice place where you can sit down to chat with other travellers. At the pension there are single rooms with privat toilet and shower for 30 Euros and rooms with chared bathroom for 20 Euros. These are the summerprices and the rooms at the hotelside are a bit more expensive.

  • The view from my window :) - Istanbul
The view from my window :)

The best about Hotel Arcadia for me was the view you get to the city and the location of the hotel. What I was seeing from my window was both St. Sophia and the Blue Mosque. In order to get that I think it is a good idea to put it on your reservation because not all the rooms are having that view. In terms of location it is a good starting point due to the fact that it is in a walking distance from such major points of interest as Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace and several museums. The room was comfortable, clean and neat :) The staff could be a bit absent minded at times :) I asked for my key and they gave me the key from another room :)))

    - air conditioning, - central heating, - mini-bar, - satellite channels, - safe deposit boxes, - direct-dial telephones and - hair-dryers The view of the Sea of Marmara from Horizon Restaurant on the top of the hotel is unique. I wish the weather was better and wormar so I could have my breakfast outside, not indoors.

Sur Hotel Istanbul: Friendly staff, good for budget travelers   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Sur Hotel has a very friendly staff. I felt like I was staying at a friend's house when I was there. The rooms look nice, but the bathrooms are not that great. There is a terrace with a view of the Sea of Marmara. The breakfast (included in the price) is decent. My main problem with the hotel is that the rooms on the south side of the building are next to the train tracks. It is very close to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.

Naz Wooden House Inn: A piece of history!

    hotel's entrance at night

It's a very small (7 rooms only) hotel in Sultanahmet - the most touristic part of Istanbul. But it's in a residential area of that district, few hundred meters from noisy streets full of visitors. Naz is in a 130-years old wooden ottoman house, carefully restored. But it's not only made of wood. In fact Naz contains also the remains of much older building made of stone. Apparently the older building dates back to the 8th century and is thought to be one of the secondary buildings of the Byzantine Palace. That's why you can find inside the hotel some Byzantine arches and columns.

Naz is at a walking distance to the most important monuments of Istanbul: Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar. Rooms (all with A/C) and modern bathrooms are cosy and clean, and (good) breakfast is served on the terrace with a splendid view of Marmara sea on one side, and Blue Mosque on another. But one advice - it's not for claustrophobics - double rooms are quite small, the ceiling is low and there are fences at the windows.

    Hotel Baron: Hotel Baron
  • Tip Rating:

  • I stayed at Hotel Baron during my visit in Istanbul in 2002. It is a nice and clean 3 star hotel woth a good service. I was with a friend of mine who actually preferred to stay in a hostel, I preferred to stay in a 4 star hotel and we finally agreed on that hotel. I should say that I do not regret and that the price quality ratio is quite satisfactory. Actually, if you are not llooking for something flashy but for a good starting point for walking around the old town, Hotel Baron is a very good option because it located within a alwking distance from some of the major historical sights and places of interes like Sultanahmet Musk, St. Sophia Museum, underground Water Reservoir and Grand Bazar.

    - Turkish bath, - sauna, - roof top bar - meeting Room - satellite TV, - mini bar, - direct telephone, - air-condition

Tashkonak Hotel: Great rates, clean rooms
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • If you want to stay in the Sultanahment district, the Tashkonak is the nicest of the budget hotels. It really does not look like a budget hotel at all. It just has really great room rates.

The hotel offers two suites, both with private terraces. The one I stayed in had two rooms, one with two twin beds and the other with a queen bed.

Hotel Almina: Comfortable beds, close to Blue Mosque
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I only stayed here one night, but it was a decent place for the price. It was the best sleep I had my entire trip, which included stays in six other hotels. The rooms are basic, but it is one of the cheaper places to stay and it is a five-minute walk from the Blue Mosque.

Hotel Antique: Hotel Antique: Inexpensive and convenient
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I've seen this place listed as a hostel on the internet, but it looked and felt like a regular hotel to me and I'm not sure why it is classified as a hostel sometimes. Hotel Antique was absolutely perfect for our needs. It was very inexpensive, had a small but comfortable room with a private bath, and air conditioning. It also included a very good traditional Turkish breakfast each morning on the roof terrace, which had a great view of the Sea of Marmara in one direction and the top of the Blue Mosque in the other direction. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Best of all, the location was convenient, right down the hill from the Hippodrome and Blue Mosque, both of which can be reached on foot in less than ten minutes. The hotel is located in a residential neighborhood that was quiet, so we slept well. I highly recommend Hotel Antique for budget travelers. Word of caution: There is more than one Hotel Antique in Istanbul, but they are not affiliated with one another and are located in totally different parts of the city. Be absolutely sure you have the right one when you book or there's no telling what kind of confusion will result.

Uyan hotel is situated in a very quiet are in the center of the old historical city. It is decorated with an old style, with some oriental elements. I will never forget 3 things: 1. The breakfast with wonderful view to Ayia Sofia and Blue Mosque. 2. Playing piano in late afternoons. 3. The unbelievable hospitality of all staff of the hotel! They really make you feel at home!!

    Nena Hotel's comfy rooms
    by Tijavi

Notwithstanding its pretentious "classical" interiors, there are so many things to love in this hotel. It's location just right off Sultanahmet's main thoroughfare Divan Yolu Caddesi, is one. So are the comfortable, well-appointed, albeit smallish rooms, and decent breakfast buffet. Hard to beat at YTL 60/night (inclusive of breakfast), on cash basis. Nena Hotel was the first hotel I ''stumbled upon'' on my return from my two-week trip around central Anatolia. Highly recommended for budget travelers looking for decent, comfortable and affordable accommodation in the heart of Sultanahmet.
