Belly Dance and Folkloric Show

by PurpleQueen

We will be in Istanbul October 31st to November 3rd and would very much like to go to the dinner show either at Sultana's or Orient House on Sunday, November 1st or Monday, November 2nd. I know, touristy, but fun! Do you have any suggestions about which has a better show? Right now I am thinking about going to Sultana's show, but I have heard so much about the Orient House, even though it is more expensive, I am considering switching. I am really confused! Perhaps I am over thinking this.

Do you have any thoughts or suggestions to pass on. We look forward to our stay in Istanbul. We leave in 2 weeks - can't wait.

As always, I thank you. I am so appreciative of advice I get here in the forum.

You may have seen all of this already, but here it is in case you have not. It has been too long since i was there for me to give updated opinions on those shows. Good Luck!

I don't suggest this type of shows as they are too much touristy, but you already know about it so no big deal. Your stay is quite short to see enough of Istanbul, but still you can cover the main attractions. For restaurants and things to do, have a look at my Istanbul tips which will give you enough ideas. Enjoy your stay in Istanbul.

Thank you, Odinnthor for you response. I clicked on the links and I was entertained by the videos. I appreciate that you took the time to respond and supply the links. If we decide to go, I will let you know. There is so much to see and do and my time, pre-cruise, is limited.

Thank you Murat Korman for the response. I read most of your Istanbul tips and am going to take the info with me. So many restaurant choices! I wish I had more time to enjoy this fabulous city.

Bosphorus cup sail race..

by Erkmen

Sail between Asia and Europe.. Every year there is a race for sail boats in Istanbul.. They cover the distance from Kalamis Marina, first to the princess islands and back to the Bosphorus and down again to Atakoy Marina..

All those wonderful sail boats are leaving a day full of memories.. They tango in the bosphorus and let you have a wonderful visual entertainment..

On the bosphorus straits there are numerous of historical Villas and also Merchant vessels are continuing passing by during the race.... While you are watching the race you can spot many interesting and attractive spots...

Turks like to talk and spend...

by ersavas

Turks like to talk and spend time with foreigners. they are very hospitable that sometimes you may want to get rid of it :) They can offer you free drinks, meals a.s.o. These are all normal. But of course some people can try to benefit from this situation and try to cheat you in terms of costs. Try to be careful of course but not nervous. Otherwise you can not taste it..

Yuvacik dam and Inonu valley.

by Tdiver

Around an hour and a half down the coast to the west is Izmit, take the turn off for Izmit otogar/Yalova.From the turnpike take 1st left signed, keep going heading D130 signed Yalova.Just after sign turn off for Kullar.Keep going to PetrolOfisi gas station and turn left before the bridge.Keep going until Kullar stadyum sign and turn right.Go through Kullar to the left of the Mosque and turn left just before Saglik Bakanligi building on the left.Head up to Yuvacik. In Yuvacik turn left just past green Mosque, signed Yuvacik baraji,it's on a building.Road twist through the back streets.Go up right side of dam.Great scenery and great picnic areas from past the headwater. At the head water are a couple of river fish(alabalik)restaurants also a couple of nice ones on the way just past the dam.
The Inonu valley signposted after the headwater is quiet and great for picnics also wild flower and fungi.
Area good for hiking and walking found ceps on my last visit.

Historic Mall

by solopes about grand bazaar

A big maze, it's the ideal place for shopping in Istanbul. The shopping lovers have everything there, their companion may enjoy the site.

Much more organized than the Islamic souks, the place keeps the oriental touch, and bargaining is the general sport. Don't miss it.
