Is there any nightlife for single man in Istanbul?

by azizshaikh09

I have heard that solo man are strictly not allowed in bars, nightclubs, oriental night clubs etc. I am planning to go in April with my family but in the night I need to explore the nightlife of Istanbul on my own. Please help.

Hi, On Istiklal Caddesi you’ll find rock clubs, jazz clubs, R&B and Hip Hop Clubs, trance and techno music clubs and many of these feature live bands regularly.

For a really cool atmosphere, great views, and nice, trendy crowd, you couldn't do much better than visiting Club Reina in Ortokoy. It's an open-air club, that is a restaurant till 2300 hours, and then turns into a heaving club. Offers nice views over Galata bridge, etc.

As Max said, you shouldn't have problem entering into any bar or club. Taksim area provides numerous options.

Just to add -- and if you haven't heard or read it anywhere yet, when going out alone as a male tourist looking for nightout, be wary of a scam particularly in Istiklal Cadessi - maybe not very notorious nowadays - still take cautions from people approaching you who pretends to be also tourist and also looking for some bars or nightclubs. Many people have been victimized in the past, tourists were made aware of this so these days there may be few. Read the warning I've written, here:

have fun, Istanbul is an amazing place!

Dont go to the red light bars. They take your trousers off. The night clubs are called "gece kulubu" in turkish. we commenly say "bar" In bars there are women ready to serve the costomers. Dont go there just stay with your family. Bars are very dangerous. The Café-bars are for normal customers like you and me. You can go there to drink a beer. There are very good oriental night clubs for good people. You can ask at the reception of the hotel.

Travel Tips for Istanbul

Yeni Cami, the "New Mosque"

by Martin_S.

Just a photo of this mosque from the exterior, it is located on the square across from the Galata Bridge in Eminonu. While it is called the "New" Mosque that does not mean it was made yesterday, this dates from some 400 years ago....We did not have time to take a look inside. At this point after several days seeing many, MANY, we were sort of Mosqued OUT.

Polluted Skies - Knowing Air from Water

by mrclay2000

When the weather is overcast or there is a fogbank over the harbor, the polluted skies of Istanbul tend to turn a lurid pink or lavendar. Except for the common hulls plying through the waves, it is often hard to tell the sky from the sea.

Staring

by AcornMan

It might seem very strange to you, but you may often find Turkish males staring directly at you for long periods of time. This can be a bit unnerving if, like me, you come from a culture where this is considered somewhat rude or at the very least inappropriate. However, don't worry about it. That's just their own culture and they're not trying to intimidate or scare you.

I am told that this phenomenon is typically limited to the Sultanahmet area of the city though. If you venture beyond this more tourist-oriented area perhaps it will not be an issue.

In serach for Roxolana:Haseki Hürrem Baths

by om_212

I stumbled upon this place by a complete chance. even if you are indeferent to Haseki Hürrem , there still two good reasons to visit her Hamam (Baths). First, to enjoy one of Sinan's great work for Sinan. The Hamam has twin-baths with separate but EQUAL-sized chambers for men and for women. Second, to see the collection of carpets. (After the restoration, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism turned the baths into a carpet gallery ).

Entrance is free, in other words, there is no need to buy anything if you don't feel like :)

Location: just across from the plaza from St. Sophia

To experience the real...

by Linda_Cuthbe

To experience the real Turkey....turn left out of Moziac bar in Sultan Ahmet & on the left hand side you will find Enjoyer...a traditional Nargile Bar...where you can experience a water pipe and some Turkish Tea or Coffee.....do not be afraid .....venture in to experience the real Turkey!
