1) The reception simply did not keep the promise on its website: free transfer to or from the airport.
2) They quoted 60 euroes on the phone, and charged 90 euroes on the checkout.
3) The room was small, stinking hot and the reception simply ignored our complaint and request to change rooms
Does anyone know anything about Atakoy or Bakirkoy?
Are we likely to find reasonably priced pension/hotel type accommodation in either place?
Which place would be best? Can you recommend somewhere?
Our priorities about accommodation are:
1. very clean
2. quiet
3. private facilities (own shower & toilet)
4. Air con.
We are not looking for luxury!
Many thanks
Hi
Can i ask why Bakýrkoy and Atakoy? Coz i studied in that part of istanbul and didnt see a hotel...There is just 1 and thats 5 star hotel ..it is great but its up to you of course.
i guess sultanahmet and taksim area would be better for accomadition. have a nice journey:)
good question from my fellow Istanbullu, both areas are very residential, but with some nice local restaurants and in easy reach of Sultanahmet.... the only hotel I know of that might fit the bill is the Best Western Tashan ( 02125610988)in Bakirkoy. A business colleague stayed there a while back....It has all the usual BW stuff and is only 9km to the airport... but still you would be better looking around Sultanahmet, there are some lovely hotels below the Blue Mosque towards the waterfront.

Thanks for your replies, Babazula and TurkishBrit,
My husband has some relatives round Atakoy and Barikroy and they seem to be biased against the Sultanhamet area for some reason.
Sultanahmet area is yes; touristy; street vendors keep on bugging you for a sale, but when you have a question, the same guys are still extremely helpful ( the ones who are fluent in a foreign language ).
It will be wiser to stay in a Sultanahmet hotel ( because of cempetition among hotels , the prices will bebrtter then the few ones in Bakirkoy or Atakoy ) and besides;the streetcar, right from the Sultanahmet square will take you to Bakirkoy , 1 new lira or so each way.

Thanks TurkeyTalk for your reply.
Would you know how long it takes to go by tram from Sultanhamet to Bakirkoy?
