A cruise on Bosphorus
by violeta13
The cruise is an excellent way to see the palaces, the mosques and the old wooden yaldwellings along the shores. Definitely the best way to see Istanbul! The silence of the sea (even if the traffic on Bosphorus is quite busy!) comparred with the noisy town.
How far is the Airport to the city center?
by June.b
Ataturk Airport is less than 25 kilometers away from the city center (European side – Sultanahmet or Taksim). About 30 to 45 minutes ride, depends on the traffic of course. For the most economical transportation option from Ataturk airport to Sultanahmet or Taksim, you may go to Transportation Tips .
While the other smaller Sabiha Gökçen Airport which is located on the Asian side (Kurtkoy) is far from Sultanahmet or Taksim, about 40 kilometers.
I’ve never been there but you may checkout their website to find out mode of transport to the city .
"EVIL EYE"
by balhannah
When wandering Turkey, you will notice Bracelets, Pendants, Painted china, Tiles, in fact items too numerous to mention, what is known as an 'EVIL EYE.'
It is a common symbol throughout the Middle East and dating back many thousands of years, it is traditionally thought to ward off negative energy from others which can lead to bad luck.
You may also see them hanging above doors or dangling in car windscreens. They are usually made out of cobalt blue glass with a stylised eye design.
So, buy an evil eye charm, to ward off the ‘evil eye’.
They don't cost a fortune, make a great souvenir.
I brought a few home to give as gifts to children I know who love this type of thing!

Kuleli Military High School
by Kuznetsov_Sergey
Kuleli Military High School is the first military high school, located in Çengelköy, close to Üsküdar It was founded in 1845 by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I.
Because of the war between the Ottoman Empire and Russia in 1877-1878, the school was decided to be a hospital.
I could see it from apart when was crossing the Bosphorus by city-boat.
You can watch my 2 min 50 sec HQ Video Istanbul Bosphorus Uskudar Eminonu part IV out of my Youtube channel with Turkish pop music.
You may watch my high resolution photo of Istanbul on the Google Earth according to the following coordinates 41° 2' 41.72" N 29° 1' 44.60" E or on my Google Earth Panoramio Kuleli Military High School .
