A 4 star hotel in Istanbul

This hotel is supposedly a 4 star hotel but was horribly dated and in poor condition. I went this past weekend to Istanbul with my husband for a mini-honeymoon. This hotel as 7 floors and at first we were on floor 1. The room had a double bed and a single bed. The tv reception was so bad it was like watching snow. The room was very shabby and not very clean. In the shower, there was hair everywhere and it was stained so badly it was like a cheap hostel. I couldn't stand in the shower without flipflops. The ridiculous thing is that they posted that the price of the hotel is $140+ a night. The room opened unto a patio which overlooked a garbage dump. Wonderful! The shower was so revolting with mildew and hair everywhere that we insisted upon a different room. They couldn't give us a new one until the morning. There was nothing good about this hotel. No tv reception, no pool, no view, not even good food. There were lots of strange migrant workers who would hang out at the doors 24 hours a day. The breakfast all tasted like plastic food and was of a very limited selection (5 items to choose from).
We finally changed rooms to the 7th floor (supposedly the nicest room of the hotel) and at best I would rate this a 2-3 star room. Oh ya, besides the lumpy beds they were seperate single beds. Great honeymoon.

Unique Quality: Close to the grand bazaar but not in a good area. I stayed at the Cara hotel in Istanbul in December 2003 and this was a nice hotel which had a great view of the bosphorus and a spa and pool etc. Dont stay at Carlton if you have another choice.

Carlton Hotel - Don't Waste your time here !

Carlton Hotel should be a 4 stars hotel in the middle of the old city of Istanbul but this hotel is not even 2 stars.

I will start from the good things : The location is very good !
5 minutes from Taksim Square with a taxi , 10 minutes walking from sulimaniyeh mosque and 20 minutes to Aya sofia and the Blue mosque. That's all the good things.

Now for the hotel's description (and bad things) :
This is a small hotel with 7 floors and something like 10-15 rooms on every floor.

The room we got was small but it was ok because we had a double bed (not all rooms have double bed here).

The shower was clean and also the toilet but they didnt change the bedclothes every day.
From 7 nights we had 2 nights without an A/C because they had a problem.
one of the two elevetors was broken for 3 or 4 days.

The breakfast was simple but still satisfying but they didnt clean the maps and the water had an awful taste of chlorine.

The staff of the hotel was polite but still they didnt try to help us on our a/c problem.

Unique Quality: Nothing special - to my opinion you should avoid this hotel.

I am happy that i enjoyed Istanbul so much so the hotel didnt ruin my vacation.
