Nightmare on Istiklal Street

I had a confirmed booking from Hostels.com and had paid a deposit. In fact I also e-mailed the hostel to let them know of my very late arrival:

1. No record of reservation.

2. Offer a 6 bedded room instead of single, in which it turned out I was sleeping in someone elses bed who had not returned.

3. No water = no toilet (they were overflowing) - not even the morning after..

4. No word as to whether or not I would get a room.

5. Asked me to pay the bill for the room I did not get and they could not guarantee!

6. Staying in a great three star hotel (Hotel Troya 40 Euros per nite single - cable, bath, great buffet breakfast and wifi) for 10 Euros more a nite than the private room in the hostel form hell (30 Euros).

The rooms I stayed in was absolutely filthy - there was no table or storage space for six people in a room about 15 feet + 11 feet!! Noise was really bad - not because of guests but how the place is laid out - good thing it was not hot as there is no ventilation in the multibedded rooms.

I just remembered that the internet did not work and the idiot there just keppt saying wait for a manager at 11:00AM... I have stayed in some dumps - read about some of the hell holes in Bombay - but this takes the cake in terms of everything being awful - its one thing not being able to bathe, it is another not being able to relieve yourself!

Great location though!

Unique Quality: Dirty

Nasty staff (something I have never encountered in Turkey)

Awful organization

Not recommended

I just want to give my opinion about this hostel. In march we went to Istanbul and we planned to stay in Chillout Hostel for one week. We didn't stay for long, only two nights because we found it very dirty and not worth the money. There were few toilets and showers, cats trying to get into our room or even trying to eat our breakfast. We paid 20 euros for a double room, which we didn't get because they had some problem with the bookings. I know that you get what you pay for, but in this case it was far too much money.

The breakfast was good.

Istanbul Hostel in Istiklal Caddesi (Taksim)

Cool hostel located in one of the sidestreets off of Istanbul's high street Istiklal Caddesi.

Unique Quality: *** Location can't be beat, while it is nice to stay in Sultanahment all the nightlife and locals are here!
