Is the Çiragan Palace Hotel Kempinski Istanbul the most luxurious hotel in the city? Many people think so.I can agree that its the best hotel in bosphorus The Çiragan (CHEE-rah-AHN) Kempinski has a reputation for deluxe accommodations and service, but it's the locationright on the Bosphorus shore next to the restored 19th-century Ottoman Çiragan Palacethat gives the hotel its caché.I use to play football in this ground. The hotel itself is a modern building designed in harmony with the restored palace. The 284 guest rooms, 20 suites, and most facilities (restaurants, bars, etc) are in the hotel portion. The palace has 11 luxury suites, but its primary use is for meetings, conventions and private functions held in its sumptuous public rooms. Hotel guests can usually wander through and admire the public rooms if they are not in use. The Kempinski has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and those marvelous Bosphorus viewsbut not from all rooms. Rooms on the west side of the hotel have "park views," meaning that the higher rooms look out across the Bosphorus coast road to the grounds of Yildiz Park, the forests and gardens surrounding Yildiz Palace. But the lower rooms on the west side look only at a high stone wall that sets off the Çiragan Palace grounds from the busy roadway. If you plan to stay at the Kempinski for its Bosphorus views, be sure your room has one view !

 | Ciragan Palace Hotel Kempinski: Istanbul's best hotel

Considered Istanbul's best hotel, the Kempinski occupies an opulent 19th century Ottoman palace on the banks of the Bosphorus (see tip in "things to do" for the history of the palace). Most of the rooms are in a more modern annex with views over the Bosphorus, though the largest suites and ball rooms are in the actual palace. No doubt a stay at Çiragan Palace is special, as the service is impeccable and the amenities are excellent. Most enjoyable, though, is simply having breakfast outdoors while watching large Russian ships lazily navigate the waters. A stay here comes at an elevated price, but when I stayed here in August 2004, I was very lucky to find a relatively affordable special on the internet. I am told that today, such specials are no longer available, and the price for a regular room has more than doubled!
Although the hotel is located at the edge of town, distant from historic Istanbul, I found it quite pleasant to return in the evening away from the congestion of central Istanbul. Taxis are plenty at the hotel and the ride to downtown Istanbul takes only 10 minutes. The hotel though is within walking distance from Dolmabahçe Palace and other sights in Beyoglu.
