Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on April 22, 2010

I had the good luck of staying in this hotel on my first trip to Istanbul, and also on the second one. Both times I had a room with a view of the Bosphorus. Moreover I was an invited guest, in fact I could not possibly afford the hefty rates.
The hotel itself is a modern building, annexed to an Ottoman Palace that now is an integral part of the hotel, with a restaurant and several function rooms for parties, weddings, meetings.

Unique Quality: Lots of details form the general feeling of luxury in this hotel, but the one sigle detail that stands out in my memory is the swimming pool. It is by the Bosphorus, in a beautiful garden, with a view of the old palace and its marble gate on one side. When you are in it you see only a white balaustrade to separate the water of the pool from the sea.

Istanbul's best hotel

Considered Istanbul's best hotel, the Kempinski occupies an opulent 19th century Ottoman palace on the banks of the Bosphorus (see tip in "things to do" for the history of the palace). Most of the rooms are in a more modern annex with views over the Bosphorus, though the largest suites and ball rooms are in the actual palace. No doubt a stay at Çırağan Palace is special, as the service is impeccable and the amenities are excellent. Most enjoyable, though, is simply having breakfast outdoors while watching large Russian ships lazily navigate the waters. A stay here comes at an elevated price, but when I stayed here in August 2004, I was very lucky to find a relatively affordable special on the internet. I am told that today, such specials are no longer available, and the price for a regular room has more than doubled!

Unique Quality: Although the hotel is located at the edge of town, distant from historic Istanbul, I found it quite pleasant to return in the evening away from the congestion of central Istanbul. Taxis are plenty at the hotel and the ride to downtown Istanbul takes only 15 minutes (without traffic, otherwise it could be long). The hotel though is within walking distance from Dolmabahçe Palace and other sights in Beyoğlu.

Very Bosphorus

Is the Çiragan Palace Hotel Kempinski Istanbul the most luxurious hotel in the city?
Many people think so.I can agree that its the best hotel in bosphorus
The Çiragan (CHEE-rah-AHN) Kempinski has a reputation for deluxe accommodations and service, but it's the location—right on the Bosphorus shore next to the restored 19th-century Ottoman Çiragan Palace—that gives the hotel its caché.I use to play football in this ground.
The hotel itself is a modern building designed in harmony with the restored palace. The 284 guest rooms, 20 suites, and most facilities (restaurants, bars, etc) are in the hotel portion.
The palace has 11 luxury suites, but its primary use is for meetings, conventions and private functions held in its sumptuous public rooms. Hotel guests can usually wander through and admire the public rooms if they are not in use.
The Kempinski has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and those marvelous Bosphorus views—but not from all rooms. Rooms on the west side of the hotel have "park views," meaning that the higher rooms look out across the Bosphorus coast road to the grounds of Yildiz Park, the forests and gardens surrounding Yildiz Palace. But the lower rooms on the west side look only at a high stone wall that sets off the Çiragan Palace grounds from the busy roadway.
If you plan to stay at the Kempinski for its Bosphorus views, be sure your room has one view !

Best place to stay in Istanbul

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 23, 2006

The stay was awesome. We landed in Cirigan after almost a 20 hour journey all the way from India. The rooms, the staff, the location and the luxury. I mean in all my life this must have been one of the best places I have stayed in...and I have travelled a lot. Wifi is on the house all over the hotel and since I was travelling with a friend who works in a big american corporate company, we got a room for like US $ 180 a night which I thought was a steal for this place.

Unique Quality: Excellent views, superb service.

Directions: Just ask any taxi fellow to take you to "chirigan" palace. Thats the way it is pronounced.

A fantastic hotel on the Bosphorus

Being treated like a king doesn't hurt once in a while? At Ciragan I was having the feeling of being the emperor...
I stayed three nights on a work-related trip and my hosts scooped up everything related to accommodation and transport - a truly fantastic stay despite all the work that I had to do in exchange for this service....

Unique Quality: This rates among the very best hotels I have ever stayed at - anywhere. A combination of the setting on the Bosphorus, the grand room with the breakfast veranda on the Bosphorus and the spacious outside areas and park-like courtyard, super service and even better food. The restaurant Tugra was a culinary highlight during my stay. And I did try several other renowned places. Easy access to sights and facilities in the city.

Directions: Up past the Golden Horn, on the Bosphorus' European side.

An absolutely fabulous hotel

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 27, 2005

This was unfortunately a one night only hotel, as with prices for a standard from 500 Euro per night for a double room and the top of the range suites at something over $11,000 per night, it was not the place I could stay for too long. A great experience if you can afford it. Its location is about 45 min from the airport and to help save a little for the hotel costs, you can take a bus into the center of Istanbul and then take a cab for the 10 min journey to the Ciragen Palace (many Taxi drivers don’t recognize it as Kempinski)

Kempinski do offer an early booking pre paid discount of around 20% depending on the time of year

Unique Quality: The grounds which are massive, run parallel with the Bosphorus and is from the grounds or maybe the passing tourist boats that you can really appreciate this hotel, which has an increadible history. From the pathway in the grounds alongside the Bospherous, you are within 1000m of the bridge connecting Europe with Asia.

The most expensive of them all

by written on July 7, 2004

Ciragan Palace Kempisnki is the most expensive hotel in Istanbul, the place for regal weddings and the residence for kings, princes and sheyh's. And you can imagine why, Cirgan Palace was once the residence of the last Ottoman Sultans.
The Hotel itself is an addiacent building, although not the palace still in the same luxury style.

Unique Quality: Even if you do not intend to stay at Cirgan Palace Hotel you can still visit it just to see the magnificent luxury palace, and while there enjoy the marvelous view on The Bosphorus and visit one of the restaurants there.

Directions: on the European bank of the Bosphorus, on Ciragan Boulevard.

For those who can afford it, it is worth to choose it!!

Unique Quality: Located just in front of Bosporus. When visiting it (you can just go and drink a coffee) ask in the reception to show you the way to the palace. It is amazing!!

The residence of the last Ottoman Sultans now an luxury hotel with a swimming pool at the shore of the Bosphorus, where you think that you are swimming at it. A magic place with magic views and beautiful architecture. It have an old (original) and a modern part. I remember the red magnificent curtains and gorgeous furniture.

At the bar a beautiful piano. At the garden, all full of candles, in summer, a wonderful dinner buffet. Inside a jewel shop that must been seen and a bakery shop that must been also seen :)

Unique Quality: The arquitecture and views to the Bosphorus... all is unique ...

Location and prestige

by written on April 16, 2003

The hotel the wee mortals stay in is actually an annex beside the palace only the VIPs get to stay in the super lux suites inside the palace. As you can see by the pic, it's right on the water which is lovely at night. The website says $1000 per night, but the rooms were running $450.

To clarify any possible misunderstandings, I did not stay here. I had one member make a snotty comment about my complaints of expensive entry fees, thinking I was paying (and could actually afford) $450 per night.

Unique Quality: Some rooms offer wonderful views of the Bosphorus, others, a wall.

Directions: Besiktas

The Cirigan Palace Hotel Kempinski Istanbul is actually two hotels; the restored Sultan's Palace itself and a grand deluxe hotel featuring five star luxury.

Unique Quality: The area where Ciragan Palace now stands was known in the 17th century as Kazancioglu Garden. The place itself has a great history which you can read about at the website below.

Directions: The hotel is situated directly on the European shores of the Bosphorus.
