This is a beautiful hotel. If you are looking for very good accommodations you can't do much better. However the hotel is quite a way from the normal tourist areas if you intend to walk.
The one thing I didn't like about the hotel was the very high priced breakfast. For 38 Turkish Lira, I think it could be a lot better. Maybe, fried eggs made to order instead of dumped in a cold buffet steamer would make me feel better. The 18 Lira hamburger late at night did not quite seem like what I would expect for a burger of this price.
Unique Quality: The hotel has beautiful rooms and interior spaces that were built on a famous old residence.
I signed up for the Crowne Plaza, but I saw a few negative reviews. My agent there says it is good value for the money, but the location is not so good. Anyone had any experience with the hotel or area it is located in? Is there something close that would be better, or am I staying in the wrong location?
There are 5 Crowne Plazas in Istanbul. Which is the one you have boooked?
ISTANBUL-OLD CITY Crowne Plaza Hotel, FETHIBEY STREET NO:10
The location is fine, close to the Grand Bazaar and the Suleymaniye mosque, walking distance to many of the city's main attractions such as the Blue Mosque, Cistern Basilica, Aghia Sofia, Topkapi, close to the trams that will take you further afield. Many tourists choose to stay in Sultanhamet, that may be why your agent says the location is not so good, but Istanbul is a very large city and even in the central area no one location is going to put you right in the centre of everything.
Thanks for the information on location.
