Hotels near Ataturk Airport

by mat_at1

I will be arriving in Istanbul late and flying out the following morning. Does anyone have any suggestions for cheap hotels/hostels very near to the airport?

Airport region is not cheap in Istanbul. Once I stayed Florya Health Club Hotel 5 min to Airport. It was quite descent boutique hotel with reasonable pricing.

The heart of the city is only 15-20 mins away so all hotels on the European side are worth looking at, and if near the light-rail then even better

Thank you all for your advice! I'm going to be arriving around 1:00 and leaving at around 9 or 10 so I figure it would be much easier to stay as close to the airport as possible rather than trekking downtown and some of these options seem very viable.

Travel Tips for Istanbul

A passage to Orient..

by Erkmen

When you are in Istanbul, you can spot some places which look quiet orient. and Yeni camii "New Mosque" is one of those places..

Just in front of the Eminonu pier, you can see the Yeni camii, the birds in front of the mosque and people feeding them.. Tourists looking way to the Spice Market and street vendors are trying to catch a good location.

Below picture was taken on 17may 2003, early in the morning.. So less people around..

Guest's room in harem

by solopes

Yes, hospitality is a real characteristic of Turkish people, and my room in Dolmabahce Palace was very comfortable.

I didn't want to abuse their hospitality, and that's why I didn't accept to stay there, not because the harem was empty as some bad spirits suggested.

I was grown up in this part of Istanbul.KASIMPASA.My father is a shop owner in Kasýmpasa
and I worked with him and when I was a student for holidays and saturdays I was coming to
work in our shop which is still in Kasimpasa.

This poor and second class neigbourhood made a Prime minister. We are having the fruits of this.We have a modern and brand new Sport Complex.Even Best football team of Turkey
GALATASRAY do not have it.

We didnt think Kasimpasa can improove like this at the past.
Recep Tayyip Erdoðan Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is used as the home stadium for Kasýmpaþa S.K.. The stadium holds 15,000 people.

Crossing the Bridge on foot

by ozalp

It is prohibited to walk over the Boshporus Bridge. It wasn't once and my aunt and uncle tells me that they had walked over it to return to home from their university. It is prohibited because of the suicides and terrorist acts.

But... There is a marathon called "Avrasya Maratonu", "Eurasia Marathon". 2008 is its 30th year. Anybody can join this marathon, because it has two parts: A longer path for professional athletes and the other for everybody. It is usually at the end of October, near to my birthday. You can have detailed information here: http://www.istanbulmarathon.org/english/main.asp

This one is new: There was another event over the Bridge at 31st of August, 2008 called "humanrace10k". It was a worldwide marathon and Turkey part crosses over the Bridge. Participants run from Beylerbeyi to Kurucesme.

Pandora's books

by ozalp about Pandora

This is my favorite bookstore in Taksim. It was the first bookstore which had a computer for stock searching for customers. It is very small and every inch of it full with books. When you enter you can see newly published books on your right. Near this shelf there is a small stair leading to the mezzanine floor. There you can find books about philosophy. The books near the cashier are about Turkey and Istanbul, in English. After the city guides you can find many books of literarture in English, like many books of Orhan Pamuk, Umberto Eco, Jorge Luis Borges...

Also there is a small shelf near the stairs with many brochures, free magazines, fanzines. You can find the monthly schedule of Babylon, events of Istanbul's cultural life, tickets to fairs...

You can search and buy books online in their web site, too. Books, magazines, free brochures
