You never know what you're getting when you rely on other people's reviews, especially when those reviews contradict one another. So, I knew I was taking a chance with Gulhane Park Hotel in Istanbul's old Sultanahmet district. The chance paid off. This hotel could not be better! The staff was friendly, professional, attentive and helpful. Bayram, the front desk clerk, was the best ever. He seemed never to sleep, always at his post both morning and night. Yet, he was always friendly, smiling and helpful. The hotel is more than clean. I've never stayed in a hotel anywhere that was cleaner. There weren't even the usual signs of wear and tear. Best of all, the location could not be beat. We were within walking distance of everything, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Spice Market, and water front. I would definitely stay at Gulhane Park Hotel again and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Istanbul.
I just came back from a stay in this hotel and i urge you to avoid it. I arrived late at night to be told there was a water problem And i had to stay down the road at a three star hotel. I had paid for a four star but it was late. The following day the gave me a double room which was adequate but bottom in the four star quality. After a stay in capadocia for one night i went back to this hotel. They gave a room with twins. I said i had booked a double, but they said they only had twins left. Again at night, so not much i could do. I called agent the next day and they promised him they woul solve it. When i arrived that afternoon they had done nothing. Overall, i paid for 4 nights in a double room in a four star hotel. Got one night of what i booked, two nights in twins and one night elsewhere. They are arrogant and aware you can do nothing if you have prepaid.
