GRAND BAZAAR CLOSED DURING WHAT DATES IN NOV

by mooz110

will be there from 13th to nov 19th can anyone tell me what exact days grand bazaar is closed as the hajj eid falls in between those days

Re: GRAND BAZAAR CLOSED DURING WHAT DATES IN NOV

by Fluffy_bunny

It won't be closed. The Grand Bazar is about tourist, not about locals. And besides, Istanbul is likely the most liberal Muslim city in the world. The bazar doesn't even close during Eid al Fitr

Re: GRAND BAZAAR CLOSED DURING WHAT DATES IN NOV

by explore_discover

Grand Bazar is opened Monday to Saturday from 9AM till 7 PM
Closed Sundays and bank holidays.

This year Hajj and the Eid holidays are expected on 16 to 19 November, and Banks will remain closed, so as the Grand Bazar.

As I recall, even when on Sunday when the Grand Bazaar is closed, the stall holders, or at least stall holders from somewhere, set up in the streets and the bazaar just moves outside. It's possibly less atmospheric than being inside but Mrs. Kakapo was still able to get her daily fix of retail therapy ;-)

Travel Tips for Istanbul

Language & English

by Sharon

Turkey is not yet as modern or western as it would like to be. English is not yet a spoken language to most people. When walking around, when asking the people that works in the trams or tickets office or when getting a bit lost with directions (Not many English Signs to be found) most people do Not understand English, when we tried to ask people they either totaly ignored us (and we weren't that ugly i swear:-)] or smiled with a big embarrasment. Try to just say the name of the place or street you need that for i self helps sometime, and if it doesnt try to find your way with a map or with more people to ask ... But be ready for that :-)

Yeni Camii (New mosque)

by luiggi

The Yeni Camii lies alongside the Bosphorous and directly opposite the Galata Bridge on the Golden Horn. It is also nicknamed the “pigeon mosque” and no prizes for guessing why! Yeni Camii is right next to the Spice bazaar so you may want to visit both at the same time while in the area.

Turkish coffee

by mirchica

Original Turkish coffee is not made in a coffe machine but in a special kind of pot, called "djezve".You put the pot on the hot-plate,full with water/2 cups/ and 2-3 tea spoons of coffee. Then it starts heating and when starts boiling, the water moves up and you should remove it.The coffee is ready and you can serve it.This way it keeps it's taste.

Besiktas harbour: scenic and relaxed Bosporus view

by goatee010

-Situated north of the Dolmabahce palace in the European part.
-500 meter nice harbour-area with boats to the Asian side
-Lots of restaurants with a beautiful view on the Bosporus without the noice of roads.
When we visited it in March we were the only tourists there, the rest local Turks
-Dolmus and bus transportation to get around Istanbul

Selimiye Mosque

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Selimiye Mosque located over against the Selimiye Kislasi (Selimiye Barracks). It was built with a time-keeping room, a water fountain and a sebil by Sultan Selim III. (1761-1808). The mosque was built in a wide courtyard which has four entrance doors and the western architectural style have made a big weight towards it which, with the impact of that period.

You may watch my high resolution photo of Istanbul on the Google Earth according to the following coordinates 41° 0' 35.38" N 29° 0' 58.09" E or on my Google Earth Panoramio Selimiye Mosque.
