Hotel Sultania was everything we wanted in a hotel. We were visiting the amazing city of Istanbul for the first time sort of in celebration of something, and although I try hard not to travel with inflated expectations, deep down I was really hoping our stay would be nice. It completely surpassed nice into perfection. The service was that perfect mix of attentive but not overbearing. Hotel staff were helpful, approachable and genuine. The room was very clean, uniquely decorated and the marble shower was great. We stayed a week in a suite with a balcony, and although the view was only a tiny sliver of the sea and cityscape in between buildings, looking at that in the evening mixed with access to fresh air was totally worth it. We visited in January and got a for very good rate for paying cash. The breakfast buffet is unbelievably good and the variety of options kept us coming back the whole week.
For first time visitors like us the location was very convenient. It's within walking distance to all the major sights including the Haghia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Galata Bridge and the Grand Bazaar. We walked everywhere but there is a tram stop nearby on a line that travels to pretty much all major tourist places including Taksim. The possible downside there is that the neighborhood is very tourist-oriented and many of the shops and restaurants in the immediate area are total tourist traps. You can find authentic and reasonably priced places if you try, and other areas of Istanbul are just a tram or ferry ride away.
Unique Quality: The service, breakfast, and unique rooms.
