Locals choice for fish & seafood
by Olya777 about Doga Balik
A big favorite among locals is Doga Balik, a friendly restaurant in Cihangir, located on the rooftop of Villa Zurich hotel. The resraurant also has a commanding view of the Bosphorus and the Istanbul rooftops below.
A few local friends highly recommended this place to me, and it met, if not exceeded my expectations in sense of food choices, quality, and service. Also, I went with my turkish friend and it looked like I was the only a foriegner there, which added to the fun/ great experience :)
Owner and chef of Doga Balik was a fisherman before he got started in the restaurant business- and, as a resust, this is one of the best places in the city for seafood. Most of mezes are made with seafood, such as calmari, octopus, shrimps, mussels, or lightly cooked unusual fresh greens, such as beetroot, leaves of samphire, a type os seaweed. A wide variety of freshly caught options, most often served grilled are available.

Can anyone recommend hostels in Istanbul, I need a place that can arrange trips, and not noisy at night.

Hotel Antique in Sultanahmet is often listed as a hostel even though it seemed like a normal budget hotel to me. I paid $35 per night during June of 2003. I was very happy with my stay there. Here's more information if you're interested:

Two friends from VT seperately stayed in hotel Villa Zurich near Taksim square.I was the one who recommended that hotel and they seem very satisfied..It is walking distance to main social attractions and not more than 3km to Sultanahmet area..For bed+breakfast 30 euro seems like a good deal..It is a nice neighborhood and quiet...
Enjoy your trip!
