A mansion in Sultanahmet
Yesil Ev is a boutique hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet
In 1977 this mansion was up for sale and was taken under control by the Turkish Touring and Automobile Association. The old wooden building was so far beyond repair that, with the consent of the Commission for Ancient Monuments, it was demolished and rebuilt. The nineteen rooms and layout were carefully preserved and the exterior remade as an exact replica.The furnishings have been created in the style of a 19th century winter mansion. The building has an absolutely unrivaled location between Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, and at the same time offers visitors the warm, friendly atmosphere of an old Istanbul home.After the opening of this unique building in March 1984 as the Yesil Ev, it very quickly attained a world-wide reputation and was awarded in 1985 the medal for the year by “Europa Nostra”. Yesil Ev had, indeed, introduced the concept of true comfort and hygiene to this “derelict” district and opened a new epoch in Turkish tourism by combining modern standards with historical style.Its a unique Hotel fror the people who wants to try something different than the hotels

Stay in an Ottoman Mansion in Istanbul
Spent 4 days here. It is set on the edge of a small park that separates the Hagia Sophia from the Blue Mosque.
Great atmosphere.
Have recommended this place to several friends who loved it though be warned - it isn't cheap!
Unique Quality: Antique furniture and a wonderful garden where breakfast is served under the trees in the warmer weather

Yesil Ev Hotel
Yesil Ev means 'The Green House', and the hotel is a most endearingly restored Ottoman mansion, superbly located between St. Sophia and the Blue Mosque. The location is unbeatable, and is a really charming hotel, though the commodities are not 'western'. You pay for the history.

My wife and I will be spending a couple of days in Istanbul before moving on.I am intrigued by the thought of staying at either Mavi Ev or Yesil Ev. Are there any VT'ers who can give me some feedback? Many Thanks!

Not on those, but the Hiltn was quite nice. Do tour the city while there.

Haven't stayed at eithr but they looked very nice when I went passed - both are in old Ottoman buildings and very conveninetly located. Also well located and recommended is the Hotel Romance, also in the old part of the city.
