Archeological Museum
by SirRichard
This interesting museum located inside the walls of the Topakapi Palace area, is one of my favourites in Istanbul.
The main highlight here is the Alexander Sarcophagus, a wonderful carved piece, with scenes of some battles of Alexander the Great. It is not the place where the hero body lies, it was given that name because of the decoration.

Always bargain . This is common, this is usual. Go to Kapalu Charshi - the biggest covered market in the city (on the pic) and to the Egyptian market - also covered but famous with spices, coffee and tea.
Sadberk Hanim Museum
by H-TownJourneyman
The Sadberk Hanim Museum is a superb private museum located on the European side in Büyükdere, north of Tarabya and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. It is indeed a bit of a trek from the center of Istanbul, but with a vast collection of pre-Turkish Anatolian artifacts and displays, as well as ones from the Ottoman empire and Turkish republic, it is well worth the trip! The museum is separated into two collections in two separate buildings, the first hosting pre-Turkish relics, mostly from the Anatolian region. The second contains items from the Ottoman and Turkish periods. The whole of the museum is truly top-notch. It seems quite a bit of time was put into the setup of the displays and lighting in order to create the fantastic ambiance here. The museum was first opened in 1980 by the Vehbi Koç Foundation, and the second building was added in 1988. It is open everyday except on Wednesdays. When we visited, we were suprised to be the only people in the museum. The workers even had to turn on the lights for us as we passed through. I hope this isn't an indication of how the attendance is everyday. It would be such a shame for this magnificent museum to be missed by so many people!
The Best Lokum (Turkish Delight) in Istanbul
by gezbelle about Hafiz Mustafa Sekerleme and Pastanesi
Hafiz Mustafa Sekerleme and Pastanesi is right opposite the Egyptian Bazaar (Spice Market). The shop is situated on a corner.
The shop sells freshly made Lokum (Turkish Delight).
It was established in 1864 and it claims to be the first and oldest Lokum store in Istanbul, and the best.
Besides Lokum, there are other sweets and sweet pastries to purchase in the shop.
The staff are very friendly and they will let you sample some of the Lokum before you buy. Lots and lots and lots of Lokum. All types of flavours from the traditional Plain and Rosewater, to Banana, to Orange, to Honey, to Strawberry.
You can choose the flavours you want.
It is Lokum heaven!!! You can buy the Lokum a couple of pieces at a time.
Or if you want to buy more, they come in half kilo and kilo boxes. A half kilo box cost about 7-12 YTL, and a kilo box is double it.
