New interesting restaurants

by ah90hp

My wife and I will be in Istanbul in early May and are intested in recomentdations on restaurants. We were last there in 2006 and one of the places we enjoed was Mikla in the Marmara Pera Hotel. Anyone know if it is still good or have other new places they would recommend? We enjoy many types of food, although my wife is not too fond of Asian.

This week I was in Istanbul with my wife for 3 days. We went to the famous grand shopping mall called "Istinye Park" which we heard in Ankara. It was so huhe that we were tired of walking and decided to have a late dinner at the restaurants part which was at the -2 floor called "Istinye Pazari" The market of Istinye. There we saw our fish house called BALIK EV. Normally to eat fish in Istanbul costs you too much. Even we Turks pay much. We checket the price table. It was astonishing. The prices were beween 8 -25 TL. Wer jumped in we ate a "Balik corbasi" Fish soup. It was delicious. Then I decided to eat fried "Istavrit" fish for 8 TL My wife ate "Hamsi". unfortunately they dont sell alchohol even beer. It was a great crime to the soul of the late fishes.

Travel Tips for Istanbul

QUIET AND PEACEFUL BLUE MOSQUE...

by parsix

This is one of the most recognise landmarks in Istanbul. It was sounded by Sultan Ahmet and it covers a large area. A beautiful courtyard and impresive gardens sorround the building.

Best beer in the Middle East

by baronedivandastad

If you want my opinion (and I'm sure you do, otherwise you wouldn't be browsing these pages), Efes dark is by far the best beer you can find in the Middle East. It is brewed in Istanbul by Anadolu Efes Brewery, which also produces a German style pilsner called simply Efes (boring) and a strong lager called Efes Extra (interesting, but it's hard to drink in the heat).

Efes dark is generally available by the bottle, more rarely also by the draught. It's semi-sweet in the foretaste and bitter in the aftertaste, with hints of malt and maybe liquerice or chocolate, I was too drunk to tell.

Fenerbahce Stadium

by viddra

The stadium was inaugurated in 1908 and renovated in 1999-2003. It can seat 50,500 people.

The professional sports club with the same name, founded in 1907, got its name from the district of Istanbul where it's situated. The name derives from the lighthouse located in the district ('Fener' in Turkish means lighthouse, 'bahçe' means garden).

The most popular branch of the club by far is the football team. The club also competes in basketball, volleyball, rowing, boxing, sailing, athletics, swimming and table tennis.

Beaches around Istanbul/Kilyos

by traveloturc

The people of istanbul uses to swim on black sea coast. In European side the beaches are situated in Kilyos This small and charming village on the Black Sea coast is famous for its sandy beaches stretching as far as the eye can see. The roads running through the Belgrade Forests and from Sarýyer join just before reaching Kilyos. The forest road passes beside the aqueducts and reservoirs. The village is 25 km from the city center and the motels, guesthouses and restaurants here serve the visitors in summer months.

"SUPER" Mall in Sisli

by Martin_S. about Super Mall Assortment

I do not usually suggest shopping malls or department stores or any large designer shopping stores, I think that they usually overcharge for less service. But here we did find that many of the stores had items for less than we had seen them in other cities, not real "deals", but just a little less.
Other than that it was fun to wander and then sit down in the center of the mall for a cup of coffee and hot chocolate at Gloria Jean's, an excellent place.
