A Beauty

What a wonderful hotel. It helped that I was upgraded to a suite :) The location for tourist is maybe not the best, as for sure it is not walking distance to the "old town" with all the mosques and famous sights. But it is close to the main shopping street district and also very suitable for business purposes.

The room is wonderful, large, clean, all facilities. Really, one could not wish anything more. The staff is friendly and helpful, just everything is perfect.

Breakfast is good, lots of variations and some new things to discover for you. All in all, very recommendable.

Unfriendly Service for Five Star Cost

I recently stayed at the Ceylan Intercontinental Hotel in Istanbul area, and I must say they truly have no clue what it means to be a five star hotel.

Although they have all the accomodations and the facade of a five star hotel, you get better attitude at a Motel.

We had a group of over 35 people stay at the hotel, and at the end of the stay, we all agreed on 4 things:

1. Not one person smiled ONCE during our stay. Extremely unfriendly staff (with the exception of the bar tender. nice guy).

2. Transferring their problems to the customer. A few of our guests had issues with their credit card upon check-in. Instead of trying to help out the customers, they basically told them to figure it out on their own, while charging them 7 Euros / minute for the call. At the end the issue was with the way they are booking the transaction. This was explained to them, and yet they still repeated this issue with others in our team.

3. Nickle and Dime you to death
Everything is an add-on. Internet access, 25 EUR / Day. Coffee $10, etc...

4. Ridiculous Prices
I wish i had taken a menu for laughs. just some items I recall:
- Beer: ~15 EUR
- Coffee: ~5 EUR (12 YTL)
- Mix Drink: ~30 YTL ($25 USD)

At the end, the thing that bothered all of us the most, was the real unfriendly environment. This started from the Reception, Waiters, etc...

On the positive side, the rooms are clean and the comforters very nice. Also, the hotel has beautifl view of the bosphores (not sure if this is the case for all rooms).

As for location, this is debatable I guess. The hotel is located close to Taksim square. Which seems to be a transportaion hub. So getting to the more touristy areas (Sultan Ahmed)is not a problem at all. But it does require taking the Tram.

In summary, for me, five stars is all about the service, not the facade. And this hotel has the cover of a five star hotel, with the attitude of a one star motel.

In Taksim

No room has a bad view at the Ceylan Inter-Continental, Istanbul's 390-room asymmetrical skyscraper.
The Ceylan Inter-Continental Hotel Istanbul towers above Taksim Park, with fine views, including of the Bosphorus, from its upper floors.
Taksim Square is only a few minutes' walk across Taksim Park. Very well located

Good place to stay

After staying in Cirigan palace for 2 days, we had to shift to ceylan for another 2 as cirigan didnt have space. It is pronounced as "Jelan". The standard rooms we stayed in were decent. Nothing much to write about. Service was good. Location excellent and the park view from the top was also really nice. The hotel is right in the center of town so pretty much everything is just a walk away in Taksem Square. The hotel is old, so, dont expect a swanky furniture. Internet connection is expensive and there are no hotspots to connect anywhere in the hotel. We got a corporate deal for about Eur 145 a day including taxes which i thought was a good deal. The bar on top is amazing and has an excellent view to the bosphorus. It is expensive, but, worth a visit.

Expensive but nice

The Ceylon Intercontinental is a luxury hotel located in the heart of Istanbul’s business district, next to Taksim Park within the city's shopping and leisure centres and 25 kilometres to Ataturk Havalimani Airport. The haircut I had was expensive but the massage was money well spent.

Unique Quality: Located on the top floor of the hotel, the City Lights Bar offers a breathtaking view of Istanbul and the Bosphorus to the sounds of live music.

pure luxury

one of the best hotels in Istanbul in one of the most central locations near Taksim. Pure luxury already obvious in the great lobby with staircase. Rooms very nice, but unfortunately slightly plushy. Food in buffet restaurant is slightly dissapointing, but Turkish restaurant in top floor ist great, as is nightly view from the top bar/nightclub over Istanbul and Bosporus.
Often offers very competitive rates.

Best 5* price-quality

If you ask me, I think it's the best 5* hotel in Istanbul for that range of money. (better then Ceylan, there are only Four Seasons, Ciragan Kempinski and Ritz Carlton, but all are much more expensive).

Unique Quality: - Good location in the city center (although there is no city center in Istanbul, the Taksim region is the center of Beyoglu and it's location is quite central :)
- Great view on the city!
- Fabulous hall and stylish rooms
- Wireless internet connection anywhere in the hotel
- All kinds of leisure: jakuzzi, turkish bath, pools, fitness center, virtual golf course

CEYLAN ISTANBUL INTER-CONTINENTAL: The best hotel we stayed in Turkey, as well as our last night. Save the best for last?! :-)

Conveniently located in Taksim Square area, it is about 3-4 mins. walk from the shopping area.

Unique Quality: Great views of city & the Bosphorus. The room is comfy & nicely decorated. Free sauna & Hamman (Turkish Baths) for guests. The health club looks gorgeous though it was closed for maintenance (& Bayram) when we were there :-(. There's also a simulated Golf Center. Cool!

Overpriced , poor service - a rip-off!

by TripAdvisor Member phebert

Having stayed in the Sultanamet area of Istanbul in the past we decided to spend one night in the Beygolu area near Taksim Square. We chose the Ceylan Intercontinental Hotel. A mistake!
Yes the hotel has reasonably large, well-appointed rooms and a very swanky reception area but, other than that - it was a rip off!

The room was Euro 150 for one night plus 18% tax. We made the mistake of not checking the cost before we went in to breakfast (an excellent buffet) but not worth the $60.00 cost! During our stay we made a couple of short telephone calls to friends staying in another hotel 10 minutes walk away - total cost $25.00! When we tried to purchase stamps we were told that the cost for 3 x .70YTL stamps would be 3YTL - a 30% surchange - not a huge amount of money but it made us feel that we were staying in an hotel were the profit motive definitely exceeded the customer service motive.

To add insult to injury, when we were leaving, the guy handling our luggage dropped a flight bag containing some glass items we had purchased earlier in our trip - no apology given and, needless to say - some of the items were broken. We would never stay in this hotel again - our time spent in a small hotel in the Sultanamet had offered a smaller room and less flash, but much friendlier and far better service for a fraction of the price.
