This was the third time that we have been to Turkey. This time we stayed on Heybeliada in Istanbul in a wonderful Greco-Ottoman wooden ‘kösk’ owned by a Swedish-Turkish couple working at university. I have heard about them and the place from a friend of mine in Sweden. They live in Kuleli Kosk with their two daughters and rent only three rooms of it. They are very friendly and speak several languages. Last but not least, every inch of their house has a stunning sea view and the pine forest starts already from the garden!
In case you are interested; they are building a website: www.kulelikosk.com
And their phone number: +90 216 3519493
A breathtaking panoramic view that creates the feeling of hovering over the island and the Marmara Sea.
Besides, this little historical palace is situated on a car-free island and the forest starts just behind the Kuleli Kosk.
It's a small hotel situated in the heart of Sultanahmed. It's easily reached from the airport. Its main advantage is the location. All major attractions are nearby. Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace are 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
The main disadvantage is rather small room, and the facilities are not very new.
Anyway, i would say that this hotel is a good choice for people who want to have good accomodation for a reasonable price.
Price quoted on the internet is 110 Euro for a double room per night. We had a package deal that included flight to and from Israel that included 7 nights for $600 per person, so that was about $800 for two...a good deal with the flight also.
We were picked up at the airport and deposited in front of the hotel, and at the end of our stay again picked up at the hotel and delivered to the airport, very easy.
Service is so-so, it seems like the people try to avoid your eyes in the lobby and bar/cafe areas and it took forever to get a cup of coffee or tea. They do have a nice pool on the roof which is great for relaxing after a strenous day of tourins. The rooms themselves were clean and of about average size, nothing fancy even for a 4 star hotel. An unamazing breakfast is served, it was identical for 7 days, but it is served in sufficent quantity that it can be filling.
There are two outstanding things, one good, one bad. The good is that only 100 meters from the hotel is the tram station, giving you easy access to all of Istanbul. The bad is that there is a lot of noise and since the air conditioning does not work you need to leave the window open, so if noise bothers you give this hotel a pass.
When you look at it on internet, you think :"that's it" unfortunately it is not.The location is very good , a small and quite street of sultanahmet, in front of four season hotel, 2mn walk to the blue mosque.
Getting there, I choosed a hotel room for 10 days, had to pay cash :600€!!!!! no credit card accepted. When they took me to the room , it was very dark , from the window I had a beautiful on a black wall. The room was very clean(thank's for the cleaning ladies , they are very nice.Air condition ?yes , but you have to pay an extra.Tel? yes , but used only if you call the reception.
Nice terace for breakfast served on a plastic tray, coffee or tea, 2 or 3 pieces of bread, a p small portion of cheese( la vache qui rit) 1 egg, tomatoes , cucumber, olives. No fruit juice.
In the very small lobby, we could have free tea(tea bags ) internet? you have to pay for.
One thing , all the staff was very kind, except one: the night receptionist. Looked like a con boy!
That was 2 years ago.
The location, and the cleaning ladies.
We stayed in Acropol in September 2008 with my friends. The hotel has a very good location, you can walk to all main touristic attractions such as Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque,Hagia Sophia. Hotel roof top restaurant has a great view of Marmara Sea, we enjoyed our dinner there many nights, the staff was very helpful and food was nice.
Our room was big enough and clean with the view of Saint Sophia. We had a very well sleep there. The rooms has double glazed windows, you can not get any noice from outside. The street is very attractive, there are many restaurants cafes, and bars.
The breakfast was open buffet and self service, there was no queue, We enjoyed the having our breakfast at the outside cafe.
I really enjoyed my stay in acropol and I will recomed to my friends.
Overall, we can say THUMBS UP....

I am likely to suffer from the same dilemaa. I have to stay at the Istanbul Airport for 24 hours. How is it to deposit the baggage at Airport? Do the authorities disturb people who prefer to stay/sleep at the Airport? Please advice.
Tucked away behind a tree this basic hotel won't burn a hole in your pocket.
Price is 40Ytl for 1 person, 60Ytl for 2, no breakfast.
We visited Istanbul in May 2008 and stayed at the Hotel Londra which was a fascinating place to stay. Some of the rooms wasn't of the best quality but the atmosphere was fantastic.
Great view from the terrace on the ceiling.
I have checked in turkish and english pages but there isn't any camping area
or camping managing company in the islands but there is a http://www.yorukali.com/ company managing a beach with bungalovs.Maybe interest to this one?
Mostly Istanbuller goes there for one a day swimming on the beach and picnic in the forest or for staying in the summer houses all summer long.
Enjoy your trip
