IF we mean hotels, there are several kinds of hotels. Of course you can distinguish the better ones with the stars they have. Like everywhere in the world, Conrad, Swiss, Hyatt, Hilton are good hotels. But other than these, The Marmara, Pera Palas and Ciragan Hotel are very famous in Istanbul. If you are looking for cheap hotels or hostels, you have to look for them in Taksim, Aksaray or I would say better ask for them in Information bureaus :)
Pera Museum
by Willettsworld
This museum is located just up the road from the famous Pera Hotel in an historical building which was originally constructed in 1893. The museum was founded in 2005 and exhibits three permanent collections which are the collection of Anatolian Weights and Measures; the collection of Kutahya Tiles and Ceramics and the most renowned collection of Orientalist art. The Orientalist art consists of more than three hundred paintings. This rich collection brings together important works by European artists inspired by the Ottoman world from the 17th century to the early 19th. There was also a temporary exhibition on sketches and drawings of Marc Chagall, when I visited in December 2009.
Open: 10am-7pm Tues-Sat, 12-6pm Sun. Closed Mondays. Admission: TL7.
Taksim square
by ophiro
Taksim square is the middle of the european side.
Many beautiful hotels in the area , Istiklal street - one of the most famous streets in Istanbul , a lot of shops , a lot of people.
In the middle of the squareyou can see a monument for the memory Mustafa kamal Ataturk (the founder of the current Turkey).
Very close to the square there is a nice coffeshop called taksim moda and Marmara hotel with the beautiful panoramic view.
The Heart.!

Taksim sqaure is considered to be the heart of Istanbul
almost the heart of the downtown.
Taksim is located at the starting of Istiklal St. which is the most famous street and full or tourists.
Its a really crowded street full of shops, bars and resturants!
Discos are everywhere and drunken people are everywhere too.!
I enjoyed walking in Istiklal street and Taksim square very much as I went there 7 times on the 7 days.!
it was like our target everyday so we should visit everyday.!
from Taksim you can go everywhere you want by bus or metro.!
Hotel Marmara is located in Taksim area if you want to stay in its a cool one!.
Just warning be aware of gays/transexuals who are walking everywhere in this square!.
dont give them any attention as they are really disgusting when they act like women to get some money!
The picture for me and Suat a lovely turksih VT member (xsxsxsxs) who I met in a VT meeting in Istanbul.!

by muratkorman
Hi fellow VT members. ALthough I have tried many restaurants in Istanbul, I need your help for choosing the right place for my wedding anniversary. Next monday, I would like to take my wife to a nice restaurant with a beautiful view. It can be a high-end restaurant. Your suggestions are highly appreciated. Many thanks.
