Considering the Marmara Pera in Istanbul?

The Father of Modern Turkey by mrclay2000
A statue commemorating Kemal Mustapha (known as Ataturk, the Father of the Turks) stands at the point of Saray Burnu above Topkapi Palace, facing the Bosporus. Believe it or not, this was the first statue commemorating a Turk ever raised in this city. Mustapha, once a commander in WWI at Gallipoli, brought Turkey into the 20th century by insisting on commerce, infrastructure improvements and discarding Arabic script in the modern education system for western letters. The pinkish haze in the photograph by the way is not the luster of a Turkish sunset but rather the pollution that sits on the city almost unbroken for twenty-four hours in the day.
