Brilliant backpacker place with a good vibe.

Mavi guesthouse is a little place that is a combined hostel/guest house and it´s one of the cheapest options in Sultanahmet so the place often has travellers that has been on the road for a long time.
That really ads positively to the place if you ask me as these people are often very interesting characters and i really enjoyed hanging out there when i stayed there.
The rooms are basic but pretty clean and they are totally fine for my needs.
They serve breakfast and they have a little tea kitchen you can use.
They also have free wifi aswell as a computer room where you can use the computers for a small fee.
The place has very friendly and laid back staff that makes you feel right at home and chill out.

Unique Quality: A good hippie/backpacker vibe.

Cheap Guesthouse in great location in the city

When we first arrived in Istanbul it took us ages to find this guesthouse. It was just us, lack of sleep, not used to the summer heat and bad map reading!
The guesthouse is located in Sultanahmet, which is the area where most of the cities cheap guesthouses are concentrated. Sultanahmet is a beautiful area, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes, small shops and you are near all of the main attractions of the city.

Unique Quality:
Upon arrival we were told that our room had just been sold! Likely story, but as for the reasons stated above we were far too tired to go looking for anywhere else and so dumped our bags in a triple room upstairs with shared bathroom.

The room was basic but clean, it was suprisingly cool as there were no windows.

The next day we switched to a double room downstairs, again there was a clean shared bathroom, the room was brighter and larger than the triple, the only downfall was that the window looked out onto the outside seating area on the main street which was noisy at times.

Breakfast was included in the price of the room, this was a typical Turkish brekkie and consisted boiled eggs, salad, fruit and bread - oh not forgetting the coffee!

The peopel who owned the guesthouse offered a range of information and bookings too.

Friendly Guesthouse in the old town

This friendly and small guesthouse is conveniently located in the heart of Sultanahmet. It's only about a five minute walk to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia.
It's also a great place to meet other travelers or to chat with one of the friendly guys who run the business.

Unique Quality: They have mattresses on the roof where you can sleep for only 5€, this price includes breakfast and a view on the less attractive side of Aya Sofia.

More about Mavi Guesthouse

Cheap, but not always clean.

by His_Beloved about Mavi Guesthouse

While in Istanbul, I stayed at the Mavi Guesthouse in the Sultanahmet area. While the rate was cheap, and the service very friendly and helpful, the double room I stayed in had bugs in it, and I'm still trying to convince myself that it wasn't fleas. I stayed in the adjecent building to the main guesthouse (which may be the cause of the problems), and the shared bath was also very inconvenient since it had no lock, and no where to really change your clothes without the fear of someone walking in on you (male or female), although the conditions in the main building where a lot more favorable from what I heard from other guests.
