Istanbul

additively you should go to Ortakoy and take those boat trips(they are around the Mecidiye mosque).. it's a great way to see Bosporus and also not expensive way for it. maybe you can visit Taksim square.(Istiklal ave.)Taksim is somewhere that you can easily adapted. but i have to mention that it can be crowded and it's a walking area and also if you are interested in architecture you can see many nice old buildings. for shopping and nice coffee shops Nisantası is a preferable place to visit. for cultural places you should visit Sultanahmet, Sirkeci and Suleymaniye - in Besiktas: Dolmabahce Palace.
i don't know much about airport shuttles i usually use taxi. http://www.acropolhotel.com/ there are hotels like this that have free airport transfers. search for hotels and book before you arrive to Istanbul.
the money issue:there are plenty of ATM's and exchange offices. feel free to bring USD but being prepared is not a bad idea (:
SHIPS / BOATS / MARINE / NAVY & MORE.............
by balhannah
At the RAHMI KOC MUSEUM, They have an excellent display of model boats & ships, and anything to do with Marine, this is indoors and outdoors.
In one of the display cases, a ship made by French Prisoners while they were captive in England, is made out of BONE! this was during the Napoleon war years.
There are paintings, and there is even a replica of a Ship's Bridge!
You can see Boats of old used in the Istanbul area, you can see a boat in the process of being built.
On display is the beautiful wooden Boat, the 'Riva Super Aquarama", one of the last wooden vessels to be made in the Riva shipyard in Italy.
A 1910, Gaff Ketch is also on display.
And what about having a look at an AMPHIBIOUS AMPHICAR....This was designed and built in 1950's, using a Triumph Engine.
Marine steam engines, in fact, anything historical to do with Marine, I think you will find here.

Turkish coffee!
by tere1
I found the famous turkish coffee a delicious drink! I drank many while I was in Istanbul.
It's not only a drink it's a ritual! Turkish coffee is prepared with the coffee powder and also served with it. The powder sinks to the bottom of the cup and you can appreciate the delicious coffee. It's very strong but very differnt from our regular coffee. I had mine with almost no sugar, bitter, and loved it!
Rustem Pasa Mosque

The Rüstem Pasa Mosque was built by Rüstem Pasha (1500-1561), one of the Grand Viziers of the Ottoman Empire and married to the daughter of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent, Mihrimah Sultan.
You may watch my high resolution photo of Istanbul on the Google Earth according to the following coordinates 41° 1' 3.80" N 28° 58' 11.43" E or on my Google Earth Panoramio Rustem Pasa Mosque .
Polonezköy - Polish village....
by Grootpiet
Polonezköy - Polish village. 25km NE of Istanbul. A great daytrip, especially for Sunday lunch. It's a small village in the mountains with great restaurants and some high-class spas. Try to stop at a cherry farm on the way, and when there try some of the local honeys (the guy I bought from had about 100 varieties).
