Orient Express a gem!

The Orient Express Hotel was highly recommended by a friend and it was all & more when we visited Istanbul in May. Well situated within walking distance to many of the historic sites, it's also close to tram & ferry transport. All the staff were very friendly & helpful...English spoken. Free shuttle service from the airport appreciated. Our room at the front of hotel was surprisingly quiet at night - clean & very pretty with flower boxes in the window. Breakfast included many choices, the best of our whole trip. We enjoyed dinner several times in the rooftop terrace restaurant with a fabulous view. Also good eating closeby. Internet service available. We would certainly stay at this hotel again.
I STAYED AT THE ORIENT EXPRESS...

I STAYED AT THE ORIENT EXPRESS HOTEL IN ISTANBUL, A THREE STAR HOTEL. ROOMS WITH A VIEW OF THE BOSPHORUS GO FOR $50, INCLUDING BREAKFAST. EVERYTHING WAS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE.
OH, AND THE BEST THING ABOUT THE HOTEL WAS THEIR POOL, WELL-HEATED AND ATMOSPHERIC, WITH PAINTINGS OF OLD ISTANBUL COVERING THE WALLS. GREAT POOL!
A great Hotel

We have recently returned from another wonderful stay at The Orient Express Hotel. The hotel is in a really good location for visiting the important sites--you can easily walk to many of them. The staff at the hotel are very friendly. The front desk people are always willing and helpful in giving directions and making excellent suggestions. The rooms are a little small but very neat and clean. We enjoy the roof top restaurant that gives a wonderful view of the city. The hotel is very soundproof but I would suggest a room at the back of the hotel because there is a tram that runs in front of the hotel.
enjoyable stay

My husband and I have just returned from Istanbul, after a family wedding in Ankara. The Orient Express is very close to all tourist attractions.
The hotel roof terrace is lovely place to sit in the evening with a view overlooking the Bospherous. The meals were nicely cooked and service very good. We would recommend a visit to roof terrace restaurant at least one evening and try the sea bass. One evening asked for the set menu advertised and was asked to pick from the main menu.
The staff all very helpful for advice and information. The room was a nice size and with a view of the Bospherous, as I requested. The shuttle service from airport to hotel was very useful. Returned by taxi to the airport and quoted by hotel should be 28 lire and taxi wanted to charge us 41lire, so beware.
You must try the fish rolls on the harbour front, but make sure they have been boned before eating.
Istanbul is a nice place to visit and would recommend a a stay in the Orient Express.
Good, central hotel with a great pool

The Orient Express is a small, comfortable hotel only a few minutes walk from most of the important sights in Istanbul's old town. The rooms are pleasant and the restaurants adequate, with a view over the estuary from the terrace restaurant. The staff go out of their way to be helpful and speak quite good English.
The pool they have in the basement, however, is wonderful and even if the hotel had nothing else to recommend it I would advise anyone visiting Istanbul to stay here merely to take advantage of the pool. I started every day by swimming in the - invariably empty - pool, and every afternoon returned to it after a hot days sightseeing. Seriously, stay here if you think having your own swimming pool in the centre of a very hot city is a good idea. I loved it.
turkish delight!

We stayed at the orient express for 4 nights in june 2007, and absolutely loved the experience! After extensive research we settled on this hotel, and were not disappointed! It's got a great rooftop restaurant, location of the hotel is excellent and all sights and eating joints are all around the hotel!
Even the Bosphorus is just round the corner, so you can go and take the cruise! A word - DO NOT book the Bosphorus cruise through any travel company there, they are toooooo expensive! Instead, go directly to the ferry terminal and book the cruise there (6 hours) for only about Euros 3!!
Coming back to the hotel, it's got small rooms, but then all hotels here have similar rooms I'm told. Doesn't matter. Besides this, it's got an indoor pool, a bar, good breakfast restaurant... 2 small supermarkets on either side of the hotel... And the tram stations also just round the corner!
Go ahead then and make your stay at this Turkish Delight.
P.S - Ask for non-smoking rooms on the top 2 floors - 6 and 7. We paid Euros 75 per room per night including breakfast and a one-way pick up/ or drop from the airport.
