Hi, If it's any help, I booked a domestic flight with www.flypgs.com in Oct 2009 and the one-way flight from Istanbul-Kayseri was 19 GBP including everything!!

Doublr check the rate & look for total fare. I booked mine online & did not have to pay any extra.

When I made a trial booking for Istanbul>Izmir on 15th February with Pegasus the tax was clearly shown (separately) as 7TYL.

Not having made the journey myself I was reluctant to post this information. But as Durfun has noted that he had to pay nothing else, I assume that tax is included in the fare.

Travel Tips for Istanbul

How to call within Turkey both within and abroad

by travelnut71

I did some research and asked some locals and here is the info I got for some who may need it.. here is a summary of the info...

Calling Card is a big issue in every country some are reliable some are not, as some of us may have experienced.

"Turk Telekom" seems to be the most reliable and common prepaid card. Other cards are just distracting with dialing many long numbers and you can't know if they are scamming or not. They are not reliable and you can't find them at airports anyway.

Turk Telekom Prepaid cards are being sold out as credits. Turk Telekom Prepaid Card which has 50 credits is 3.75 TL which is around 2.5 $ and one can talk with Germany ( probably the same for US )for around 10 minutes for 50 credits.

There is always at least 1 open 7 / 24 stand or counter where drinks, food, and snacks are sold at the airport.
There are many Phone Booths at the airport, however, coins aren't used. Credit cards can be used within any phone boot.

From Turkey making calls abroad:

add double zero " 00 " before dialing number.

example, if you will call china
00 + country code ( 86 ) + and the rest of the number
00 86 1381 123 45 67

For calling somewhere within Istanbul you will just dial the local number like

212 123 50 22

For calling long-distance ( from a city to another city ) :

0 + city code + local number
example for calling Istanbul from Antalya ( asia side and Europe side of Istanbul have different city codes , in this example it will be the Europe side )

0 + Istanbul Europe side code ( 212 ) + the rest of the number.

0 212 333 44 44

Typical Istanbul street

by Lion_Beat

Behind the scienes for tourists there is a life for people who live in Istanbul. And most of them live in tipical for Istanbul houses on tipical streets (like the one from the picture). Small, narow streets, very few vegetation, minuscule trotuars, and always with no place to park your car. ...and I like it!

Asking Directios / Help

by travelife

There are plenty of people around in Istanbul just waiting for an eye-contact to help you out. The clever way to ask for direction is to ask any shop / stall attendent. Ignore anyone who overhears your conversation wih a smile!

Baths of Lady Hurrem

by Paul2001

The Baths of Lady Hurrem is a 16th century building that originally served as a bathhouse or hamam. I thought that the building was rather eyecatching. It was not unusual during the Ottoman times to have a hamam outside of a mosque. This one was built just south of the Agia Sofia after it had been converted into a mosque. Today it is used as a carpet sales centre.

The Kadikoy Baloon

by hekate

The picture is a bit blured because it was a bit dark and I could not use the flash. I guess the fact that I was on a boat when I took it did not help much for the focus.

When I first saw it I was not sure what it was. So, I asked a friend of mine and he told me that it is a hot air baloon that goes up when the weaher is nice and you can see Istanbul from above.

From what I saw the tourists do not go that often to the Asian side, so I was a bit surprised to find such a typical touristy spot in Kadikoy.

Anyway, I got curious and I checked up on the net for the baloon and I found some info on the page quoted below. The essence is that the baloon goes up to 200 meters and provides a good panoramic view.

Price, duration and working hours:
The capacity is about 30 people and it will cost you around YTL 15 to get on it. I could not find how long you are supposed to stay up there for the price you are paying. The working hours listed on the page are from 09.00 to 18.00 h if the weather is good.

Address:
The baloon is situated on the Asian side of the Bosphorus in Kadikoy near the sea bus port. If the picture was not so blurred you would have been able to see that the other lights are the lights of the port :)))
