Hotel near Military Museum & Culture Center, Harbiye, Istanbul
by dhahran_eye
I am hoping to visit istanbul for a conference in June 2008. The venue of the conference is at Military Museum & Culture Center, Harbiye, Istanbul.
I will appreciate VT members suggesting a good value 3-4 star hotel near to the venue.
Best wishes to all

Since it is near the Taksim area - that road in fron of McDonalds in Taksim - you may stay near Taksim area, nearer to the Harbiye Askeri Muzesi though are hotels like:
Divan Oteli - http://www.divan.com.tr/?sxx=1
Hotel Konak - (much nearer) http://www.hotelkonak.com/contact.html
Ramada Plaza Istanbul - http://www.ramadaplazaistanbul.com/
A bit far but walking distance (nearer to Taksim):
Point Hotel - http://www.pointhotel.com/
Nippon Hotel - http://www.nipponhotel.com.tr/
Crystal Hotel - http://www.grandoztanik.com/crystal/index.html
Feronya Hotel - try hotelclub.com or ratestogo.com
In case you would be needing things to see and do in Istanbul, check my Istanbul pages.
Enjoy your trip!

Chestnut sellars.
by cachaseiro
Istanbul has a lot of guys who is selling chestnuts at their little colorful wagons that are parked around the city.
They are usually found on the busy streets and by the bridges and i think they add to the good vibe of the city while they are selling their nice nuts.
Besiktas Fans
by Lunamagica
Besiktas fans really reflect the *passion* that Turkish men and women alike have for football.... at every single match, Inonu Stadium is packed with supporters cheering their team non-stop from beginning to end... an atmosphere so charged that even the most laid-back individual won't be able to resist joining in the frenzy..... HAYATTA BESIKTAS!

It was an honour for me to be one of the only who met the Sultan himself! And this however the last Sultan left his trone in the begin of the 20th centurie when Ataturk, the adored general, took over the power of Turkey.
Spice Bazaar
by Willettsworld about spices
The Spice Bazaar, also known as the Egyptian Bazaar is the second largest covered shopping complex after the Grand Bazaar. There are several documents suggesting the name of the bazaar was first called the "New Bazaar". However, due to the fact that many spices were imported via Egypt in the Ottoman period it then acquired its current name. It was built by architect Mustafa in 1660 and consists of 88 vaulted rooms. For me, I preferred it over its bigger cousin, the Grand Bazaar, as it’s smaller and has a more personal feel. It's full of shops selling spices (naturally!), dried fruits, perfume oils, nougat, Turkish Delight, and honey.

A: "I don't know if they will run then, but anyway they don't quite go all the way to the Black Sea, only nearly."
