Getting to Haydarpassa
by albaaust
We found this out too late after a hair-raising experience with a taxi driver backing DOWN a busy freeway and huge traffic jams. And…it cost us a whopping 60YTL!!sIf you are catching the train from Haydarpasa and staying in Sultanahmet the quickest, cheapest and safest way to get there is to catch the ferry to Kadikoy which is where the train leaves.

ISTANBUL
I’m drawing an Istanbul on my chest
With my thumb, in the shape of a butterfly;
In front of the mirror like a child
I’m stroking my face and my hair.
Any bit of sea from Kadiköy
A half-empty tram from Þiþli
From samatya, perhaps From Sultanahmet,
I remember fig trees.
I’m drawing an istanbul on my chest
With my thumb, in the shape of a butterfly,
I haven’t much hope, I’m a bit tired,
I like my eyes best.

When you enter the mosque, you will be expected to take your shoes off and put on some slippers. If you are a woman, I suggest you wear something not too sexy or suggestive, unless you just love to be stared at.
Kerpe,Kefken and surrounds.
by Tdiver
2 hours more or less, or 150 km away from Istanbul on the black sea coast, is this fairly secluded, quiet, and relatively unspoilt part.Water is great for swimming and lots of unspoilt bays for picnics and relaxing.Head towards Izmit, turn off for Kandira and keep going north.Kerpe is relaxed to Istanbuls' crazy.Just a bit further up the coast to the east is Kefken, red cliff/rocks, great at sunset.
