Hi - some suggestions: Bosphorus boat ride, parks (such as Gulhane Park), Rahmi M Koç Museum, Miniaturk, Dolphinarium, Toy Museum. Happy travels!

The cool thing to do on the boat rides (irregardless of how short they are) is to buy a simit (pretzel) before boarding the boat. You can then feed the birds as you sail along. Kids like this.

The tram in Taksim can be fun.

There are horse drawn carriages on the Princess Islands.

Hi :-)

Rahmi M Koç Museum is the best option.

Hi Aziz,

Recently my Finnish frends with 3 sweet kids (2, 4 and 6) visited me and they loved Toy Museum in Göztepe, feeding seagulls with simit from boat, taking a horsecar in Büyükada.

Be aware of that Turkish people love to dandle kids on public and it is a well accepted behaviour. My Finnish friends were quite shocked to see people holding, caressing their 3 kids, giving them candies on street, bus stop, bus, boat etc. But maybe it will not seem too strange for you to get attention of affectionate stranger people as a person who is probably from a more similar culture :)

Miniatürk, Rahmi Koç Museum and Gülhane are also very right opinions.

Please feel free to ask any questions or help which can make your family trip easier and better.

Cheers.

Travel Tips for Istanbul

Commerce

by Aitana

Istanbul and commerce are indissolubly linked. There are improvised markets everywhere. The Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian Bazaar are well known, but it is also interesting to go deeper into the commercial streets where Turks sell and buy. Whereas the streets behind the Bazaars are the place for shopping, the streets close to Divan Yolu are full of wholesalers.

You need a map of Istanbul

by neodue

Sile or Agva

by amazingclick

Take a bus ride out of town to one of the weekend spots like Sile or Agva. Experience Turkey more and see the country side. We went for 2 days to Sile and it was a refreshing experience. It is called "Shile" and "Aava".

Beylerbeyi.

by Tdiver

Most people only go to Beylerbeyi to visit the palace, built for Sultan Abdul Aziz and was the final place of confinement of the deposed sultan Abdulhamid II from 1912 until he died there in 1918. If they bothered to stay and take the short walk along the front to the pier, then they would find a lovely little harbour surrounded by several restaurants with some great views of the bosphorus.
If you want to get there by local bus, then cross to either Kadikoy and take the 14M , 15CK, or 15F, from Uskudar take the 15, 15B, 15C, 15H, 15KC, 15M, 15N, 15P, 15R, 15S, 15SN, 15U and 15Y. Web page below but follow the directions from my Istanbul transport, buses page.
