Sheraton Istanbul Atakoy Hotel

I stayed 5 days while on business not too far from the airport in the Atakoy area, and the hotel had perfect location and services for my purpose. Some indoor dining options, gardens and a nearby shopping mall could also have added to my experience if I had not been so busy.

Unique Quality: Easy access to key businesses and the airport. You are saved from the most horrific traffic snarls out on this edge of town. 20 mins to the airport on average. About 20 TIL taxi fare.
Good full service hotel, well appointed, an excellent view of the Bosporus from my room on the 8th floor.
The restaurants provided very good food, whatever I tried out.
The hotel is a business hotel, and things quiet down early.
A bit far from the main sights on the northern side of the Golden Horn, and the activities of Taksim, but ok distance to the old city and the classic sights of the historic core of Istanbul.
Good taxi services to/from the hotel, never any hanky-panky. There is also an airport shutle between the hotel and Ataturk Airport (about 10 each day between 7 am and 8 pm, and hotel to Sultanahmet and Taksim, one inthe morning and one in the afternoon.

Directions: Along the main highway between the airport and the city centre. Located right inland from the Istanbul Yacht Club and marina.

Really a great hotel even if its architecture is not so nice: it’s again a great tower and god knows how I dislike big tower. However this provides an appreciable feature, a great view from the room! Mine (901) was overlooking the Bosphorus, really great to wake up with the sun rise!

Not sure why but I received a room with a twin bed, not that I specifically asked for anything! Other than that the room was furnished with really great taste! Only downside was the shower a bit stuck!

There was a swimming pool outside, its size seemed decent enough to swim but I haven’t got the opportunity to test it!

Breakfast buffet was according to my expectations, nice touch, they were offering some Turkish specialties.

The location of the hotel was good for business, not far from the airport! However to do some sightseeing, going to the old town was quite a long (taxi) ride (around 20TL if you don’t get tricked).

*Update* I cam back a couple of months later. Very similar experience.
This time, I also had dinner in the restaurant of the hotel : very nice and very friendly staff!
There is also an inner pool I had missed the first time. Again, I haven't got the time to test it though...
Wireless Internet access is available (but not via iPass) for a fee. However their system prevent you to establish a VPN!! (your PC is sending keepalives to a local box, if you encrypt them, the hotel system can't see them anymore and disconnect you)

Unique Quality: Apparently every room of the hotel are overlooking the Bosphorus. Funny feature, there is an inside window separating the room and the bathroom. You can open the venetian blinds and take your shower with a view on the sea...
