  • A fantastic choice in the historic city

    by

I cannot write a glowing enough review of this hotel and I stay in hotels about 35 weeks a year for business. The rooms and public spaces were top notch, on par with the renovation quality of a 5-star hotel in the US or Europe and the staff were incredibly warm, hospitable, helpful and welcoming. We travelled with a 5-year old and, notwithstanding that they clearly don't have many young children stay there, the waitstaff accommodated him with special placemates, little gifts and, indeed, access to the hotel computers for video games. The inclusive breakfast was lavish and they even made us lunch sandwiches, gratis, for our boat trip up the Bosphorus.

I had concerns about staying right near the Topkapi Palace in terms of congestion and noise but the streets were quiet and mosque noise was very muted as well. The hotel is super convenient to the tram and one can purchase tokens from the reception staff so that was much easier than dealing with taxi congestion when wanting to pop over to Beyoglu or tourist sites like Galata Tower, Dolmabahce Palace, or simply walking to the ferry piers.

    A big thumbs up.

Unique Quality: Hammam and massages in the lower level are definitely a bonus. The small indoor pool was good for children and the maid service was impeccable.

Directions: The historic peninsula right near palace and archaeological museum

A very friendly upscale boutique hotel

    by

The Sirkeci Konak is a boutique hotel that we stayed in while we were in Istanbul. It is conveniently located about 50 meters from the Gulhane tram stop, just down the hill from Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. We were able to walk to Hagia Sophia in about 10 minutes from the hotel.

The Sirkeci Konak is one of the friendliest upscale hotels that we have ever stayed in. From the minute that you check in, you are treated well by the friendly staff who go out of their way for you. The rooms are good-sized, but not huge. They have air-conditioning, modern bathrooms, satellite TV, and wirelss internet service. From the upper floors on the street side of the hotel, you get good views of Gulhane Park, the park that surrounds Topkapi Palace.

Amenities included a small indoor swimming pool in the basement, along with a sauna, fitness room, and hammam (Turkish bath). The hotel has two restaurants. In summer, the rooftop restaurant (the more expensive of the two) specializes in seafood, while the lobby restaurant offers a wide variety of Turkish dishes. We liked both, but preferred the lobby restaurant, which had great food at reasonable prices (especially for a hotel restaurant).

Breakfast is included with your room and is served buffet-style in the lobby restaurant. The selection included both hot and cold Western and Turkish items. In the afternoons, there is tea in the lobby, which we found to be very relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The tea time was also a good time to speak with fellow guests and compare notes on sightseeing.

We definitely recommend the Sirkeci Konak to travelers who are looking for a more upscale hotel. They are very good with children, and treated our daughter like a princess.

Directions: 50 meters downhill from the Gulhane tram stop

loved the Sirkeci Konak hotel

by TripAdvisor Member petieNewYork

This hotel is new and tastefully decorated. The rooms were very comfortable - very comfortable beds - wished my bed was as comfortable at home! The hotel overall was very pleasant - sunny breakfast dining area, and a comfortable lounge area where tea is served at 5pm. The staff was always friendly and available to chat with about Istanbul and our daily sight-seeing. In addition, all questions were always greeted with more information on the topic, and often a book available to look at on the topic of interest. The location of the hotel is ideal - in the old city and within walking distance of so much. The welcoming environment of this hotel contributed to a great vacation and a wonderful time in Istanbul. I am already making plans to return to this same hotel -- next time I will make time to make use of their pool, fitness area and get a massage!

Love to stay at Sirkeci Konak Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member IbrahimMelbourne

My husband and I stayed Sirkeci Konak Hotel in Istanbul for 3 nights. I wish it had been longer. A wonderful place to stay in historic centre of Istanbul. The location is central and we walked to most of the major sites in Istanbul. Excellent accommodations, very clean and comfortable room, great breakfast buffet and nice restaurant. (We had diner on the roof terrace. Food was excellent and the view was great), and courteous multi-lingual helpful staff especially Miss Petek Goker is at your side making sure your stay is exceptional, besides the location and comfortable rooms, it is the service that makes this hotel stands out. All of the staff was exceedingly helpful, polite, friendly and doing their best to make the stay a relaxed occasion. I want to thank to all personnel for making our stay so enjoyable and congratulate the management for having created a hotel environment with the qualities mentioned above. If you find yourself in Istanbul, stay here, you will not be disappointed. Next time I will definitely come back to this fantastic hotel. Love from Sadiye & Hussein Ibrahim from Australia

Excellent new hotel

by TripAdvisor Member bradcnyc

This is a great new hotel in the neighborhood of the Topkapi Palace.

My girlfriend and I stayed 3 nights in late July/early August. Every aspect of the hotel and service was of the highest standard - a great, friendly welcome, efficient service and great rooms. My girlfriend found the beds to be the most comfortable she'd ever stayed in. Staff were helpful and friendly and we really got a sense that they wanted to make our stay in Istanbul as good as possible.

Location is a 5minute taxi - or a very easy walk - away from the Blue Mosque area - personally i liked being a little away from the "peak" tourist area. The tram stop is also a minute or so away from the hotel.

I'd recommend the Sirkeci Konak to tourists visiting Istanbul looking for an affordable, high quality and friendly hotel.

Feels like at home

by TripAdvisor Member geebeeZurich

We have been a group of 10 people who stayed at the Sirkeci Konak for 3 nights in August 2007. It was a very special occasion since it was my sisters wedding ;-). I can only say in one word that everything was just marvellous ! Everyone from the cleaning ladies to the guest relation manager Ms Petek Göker and Receptionist Mr Agah everyone were extraordinarily helpful, made you feel at home, were around you whenever we needed sth. and believe me there is still a lot to organise when someone is going to marry !
Ms Göker organised a few things till the last second where she even once joined me to take me to the hairdresser !
Breakfast buffet was always overwhelming till the last minute at 10.30 am. The location couldn't have been better 50m from the tramway line (Kabatas - Zeytinburnu), the stop was Gülhane, but yet very quiet and tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean rooms.
5 min walk away from Ayasofia & Topkapi Palace and the attraction such as Kapali Carsi (Grand Bazaar) and also 10min walk or 2 tramstations away the Galatabridge where you can have a fishsandwich mmhh !!
We had a few rooms on the 3rd floor with a nice small balcony overlooking Gülhane park. The rooms are spacious not to forget about the nice bathroom.
I can only recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in the centre of the attractions, close to the tram and enjoy the warm welcoming and always helpful staff who makes your stay unforgettable and on top of that still is affordable !! Thank you to all at Sirkeci Konak and see you on my next trip to Istanbul - görüsmek üzere Sevgiler

Upholding the Letter and Spirit of Misafir - (More than Guest)

by TripAdvisor Member LeVoyageurLondonien

This hotel upholds the letter and spirit of Misafir - the talented team, from the bell boy, waiter, concierge to guest relations gives Turks what they are known for ages - a genuine sense of hospitality. From the moment we walked through the door of Sirkeci Konak, the contemporary comfort nicely blended with the classical Ottoman style stands out. The hotel is brought to life by the traditional Turkish and Ottoman hosting - we were more than their guests. The staff endeavoured themselves to our comfort, pleasure and happiness through
sharing, helping and just simple chatting.

The sense of hospitality is unmatched - the price is an underestimate
of its true worth and this hotel is a league above the likes of Four Seasons. The experience is unique and priceless.

The concierge Cihan spent hours after his night shift teaching us how to play backgammons (one of Turks favourite social games), taking
us to watch Fabernahce qualifying for the European Football Cup, sharing a meal and drink with us and helping us blend with the locals. He won our trust and defined "Misafir" for us concretely.

Petek and Menekşe from Guest Relations welcomed us upon arrival and stretched themselves during our stay to make us happy. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. I specially liked the chat with them in fluent English and displaying their knowledge on a broad range of subjects. I recall talking about my passion for cooking. The next day
I got a surprise gift - a Turkish cooking book in French. This is the
spirit of Misafir. This hotel is for the discerning traveller looking
for this unique experience that no others could match.

It's only a few hundred metres away from all the main attractions and after a day of sightseeing we would have free apple tea and simmit at the hotel. Petek and Menekşe would then arrange for dinner at the restaurants. Trust their recommendations; they genuinely look after your happiness.

We also used the sauna, swimming pool and Turkish bath in the evenings. The facilities are brand new, immaculately clean and never crowded. And so was dining room serving a sumptuous breakfast buffet every morning.

We are already planning our next trip to Istanbul in February 2008 at the Sirkeci Konak.

excellent hotel

by TripAdvisor Member danielhLondon

A friendly intimate hotel close to the main sites in the old city. The deluxe room was classic, clean and looked out over the Topkapi Gardens. Staff at the front desk were helpful and the guest adviser Petek was expert, charming and extremely knowledgeable. We felt part of Istanbul unlike being in the new city. We relaxed frequently in the Turkish bath, sauna and small pool in the basement. An excellent experience.

I would recommend the Konak

by TripAdvisor Member SwiftyHarrow

We had originally booked the Erboy Hotel, but because of building work were moved around the corner to the Konak Hotel part of the same Sirkeci chain. The location in the Sultanahmet area near the Gulhane tram stop is great for all the main tourist sites.

We were impressed by the friendly service, cleaniness and breakfast. The Turkish bath and pool in the basement was a bonus.

Excellent Hotel, Great Location

by TripAdvisor Member JewellM

As mentioned in the other reviews, we had an excellent experience in this hotel. It is located next to the park/Topkapi Palace and about 10-15 minutes walking distance to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, Grand Bazaar, etc. It is located on a quiet road, which made for a comfortable sleep, however right around the corner is the tram stop and a busy road. The road was quite busy at night- filled with locals and tourists, so I felt comfortable walking around. We debated about staying across the river in Taksim, but ultimately we were happy with our choice. Taxis are easy to come by and so cheap!!

One main difference than many of the other hotels in the area is that the breakfast room is located in the main lobby as opposed to the rooftop. It did not hamper our visit because we could eat or grab a drink on any of the other hotel rooftops. I highly recommend going to the "7 Hills" rooftop for a meal or drink. It is located across the street from the Four Seasons and has the best views of the Blue Mosque & Aya Sofia in the city.

This is a relatively new hotel in a great location with wonderful staff. Highly recommend staying here.

Excellent concierge

by TripAdvisor Member Rottach

We enjoyed the hotel, its location, breakfast, very friendly staff, beautiful roof terrace. But most of all we profited from the extremely helpful, efficient and friendly concierge who never failed an answer to our questions and requests.

Which Hotel to choose

by asimk

Hi, A very small question .... I will be visiting Istanbul for a few days in July and my travel agent has given me an option to choose between Dedeman, Movenpick and Conrad Hotels? Appreciate if any local can assist me in deciding as to which Hotel should I select :)

Thanks and look forward to hearing a response soon.

Re: Which Hotel to choose

by yvr

Take a look at the following website www.tripadvisor.com for reviews of past guests at hotels, you will certainly find reviews regarding the hotels you are asking about.

Re: Which Hotel to choose

by asimk

I have checked the reviews from different websites and most of them seem to suggest Conrad is better then the other two. But for a person who will be visiting Istanbul for the first time and would prefer to spend couple of days exploring the city .... what would be the recommendation of fellow VTers who live in this historic city?

Re: Which Hotel to choose

by mikelisaanna

If you want to do a lot of sightseeing, then you are looking at the wrong group of hotels, because they are away from the sights in the more modern part of the city. If sightseeing is your priority, then you want to stay somewhere near the Sultanahmet section of the city where many of the major tourist sights are located (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Archaeology Museum, etc. There is an efficient and easy-to-use tram line that runs between the various tourist areas, and having easy access to it makes your life a lot easier. THe hotels that you listed are not on the tram line.

It looks like you are targeting 4 and 5-star hotels. The one drawback to Sultanahmet is that most of the hotels in that area are smaller 2 and 3-star facilities. There is a Four Seasons, but it is VERY expensive. We stayed at a small 4-star hotel nearby called the Sirkeci Konak, which is a 10-minute walk or 3-minute tram ride from Sultanahmet. It is on a non-descript sidestreet (with auto parts stores across the street), but is only 50 meters from the tram. The staff was very friendly and it had a good restaurant and a small indoor pool and Turkish bath. It gets very good reviews on TripAdvisor, and we were very happy with it. If they don't have any rooms available, they can check for availability at the 2 or 3 other hotels owned by the same group that are within a few blocks of each other. There is also a decent-looking Best Western hotel in the same area.

Re: Which Hotel to choose

by mitata

Hi,

If you can afford, Four Seasons is the best alternative. It is in the centre of the most historical site of the city.

Thanks for the advise and recommendations .... appreciate this useful feedback.
