Quiet on a street of Chaos

We stayed at the Sultan hostel at the beginning and the end of our sojourn in Turkey. It provided clean rooms and decent showers. The attached bathrooms were of the shower and toilet in the same space variety, and for that matter, you might as well take a cheaper room without the attached bathroom unless privacy is super important to you.

The Sultan is also located on Akbik Cad., probably Istanbul's backpacker haven. For this reason, it was suprising to find such a quiet place to stay. Book online by emailing Hasan at enquiries@sultanhostel.com. He'll set you up in advance.

We did get a little cold our first two nights there, but I think that was a mistake, as our beds were perfect for our last two.

Unique Quality: Do not miss the hostel's roof top bar. It offers a nice view of the Sea of Marmara. They serve Efes on tap, and this can be a great place to make your transition from touring during the day and getting ready for dinner at night.
