Very good hotel with a great location!

I stayed at the Marmara hotel in Istanbul- a very nice luxury 5-star-hotel with a perfect location - you only had to walk out its door and you are at the famous Taksim square in the middle of a crowd and the full of life Istanbul. Built on the highest of Istanbul's “Seven Hills”, The Marmara Taksim offers magnificent views of the Bosphorus and Seraglio Point stretching all the way to the Sea of Marmara. The Marmara Taksim has 376 deluxe rooms and 82 The Marmara Club rooms with panoramic views of the Bosphorus, Goldern Horn and the city of the Istanbul (very clean and well furnished rooms of good size with great view especially if you are on the upper floors). I did like the breakfast although it wasn't something special though. Unfortunately, I didn't have any free time to check the swimming pool.
The Marmara Taksim is 25 kilometers ( miles) from Istanbul Ataturk International Airport ( IST) and 50 kilometers from Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW) Taxis are available next to the hotel. A metro station is right across the street.
I will include several pictures so you can see for yourself the hotel, the room where i stayed and the marvelous Taksim square.
One useful advice - be careful with the hot water in the bathroom - it's REALLY hot!

Unique Quality: Its location and view from the room window/terrace

Tower on a hill

I had chosen the Marmara Istanbul for a 10-days' stay for two main reasons, its location and the fact that it is by far less expensive than the other 5-stars hotels in the city. It is even less expensive than some 4-stars. Anyway when I write that it is less expensive than average I am comparing it to hotels in the same category.
About location, it is in the most lively part of Istanbul, with a wide choice of restaurants, cafes and shops all around. Moreover it is on a hill that commands a great view of the city and of the Bosphorus.
Service is great, but this is normal in Istanbul.

Unique Quality: The tower of the Marmara Hotel can be seen from many parts of the city, which means you can see much of Istanbul from there. Being on a hill, most rooms have a nice view, not only the ones on top floors.
Moreover, if you want to see the view on all sides you can turn on the TV and watch the internal channel showing the view from the camera on the top of the hotel.

Guesthouse in Sultanahmed

In May, 08 we stayed in this family-run guesthouse for 6 nights. It was clean, centrally located, the family was very nice (although mum and dad did not speak much of English).

The place was quiet and empty most of the time. I would recommend it for families, couples and older travelers. If you are a party person/single traveler you`ll be bored.

PRICE: Payed 50 euros per night for a private room with a double bed.

BREAKFAST: Free. From 7 till 10am. Is served either in the reception area or on the outside terrace. Very tasty. Includes tea/coffee, fresh bread, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, butter, home-made jam, cheese. You can also buy a fresh orange juice for 4LE.
You can also buy water (1LE for a big bottle, 0.5LE for a small one), Turkish Efes Pilsner beer (5LE) and some canned juices (2LE) in the kitchen.

INTERNET: Free, in the kitchen/reception upstairs. They ask to use it only until 11pm (for some unknown reason). Free WiFi.

NOTE: Offers free airport transfer, IF your stay is 4 nights or longer. Otherwise, it is 20 euros.

An Expensive 5 StarIn Taksim Square

This is a typical 5 star hotel in the best location in the city, on Taksim Square. Like most 5 stars, prices are high, in fact, extremely high.

A double small single bed room is about $150 per night on the internet. Breakfast is extra and costs about $33. Want a beer get ready to shell out $11.50. Enjoy the good location, just bring money.

Unique Quality: The view from the restaurant on the top floor is stunning. The hotel is placed so that the Blue Mosque is centered in the windows as you enter the room.

In Taksim Again

Marmara is the name of the sea of istanbul.
The Marmara, right in Taksim Square, is a modern high-rise offering splendid views of Istanbul's Old City, Beyoglu and the Bosphorus from its upper floors.
Groups and conventions often fill its 432 guest rooms. If you like a very central location in the midst of the bustle, this is it.
The Marmara also manages The Marmara Pera, a smaller modern high-rise hotel about a mile away across the street from the venerable Pera Palas Oteli in the Beyoglu district called Tepebasi.

The Marmara

The marmara hotel is a 5 stars hotel in the middle of the town - Taksim Square.
There is a restaurant and a bar on the 18 floor (or something like that) with great view.

Great Views

My father once again brought me with him to tag along on one opf his business trips. While he worked, I explored the city.
The nice part about it is that I got to stay in a beautiful 5 star hotel, with ana amzing view.
The Hotel Marmara is really nice, and the people are very nice. I would recommend it to anyone that can afford it. I think it is pretty expensive.

Unique Quality: Spa, Gym, Pool, 3 restaurants, really big fish tank in the lobby that is cool.

Best hotel in Taksim

by linadia

Hello,

I need help with choosing a good hotel in Taksim. All I need is a good place near the shopping zone, reasonable prices and a safe neighborhood. I did a lot of browsing but I couldn't make up my mind. Any help from personal experiences is much appreciated.

Thank you,
Nadia
