Pierre Loti Hill

by Santini738

Pierre Loti was a french writer and navy soldier, lived between 1850-1923.He was delighted with the view of Halic from this hill and fell in love with an Ottoman lady named as Aziyade. After that he decided to settle down this place and now this place is know as Pierre Loti Hill.
The hill has an amazing view that it takes you through to the Ottoman Empire time in the history.
Up in the Hill there are the Pierre Loti Cafe, the Green Cafe, the Aziyade Restaurant, the Water Pipe House, the Historical Turkish Cafe and the Turquhouse Hotel.

Travel Tips for Istanbul

Erenler Cay Bahcesi

by Willettsworld

This is an old looking teahouse where you also get the chance to try out a nargileh (water smoking pipe which bubbles when you suck air out of it). There are a few establishments inside but the one to head for is on you immediate left as you enter as this is the most attractive with lots of pretty lights and seems to be where the majority of tourists hang out. I sat down and had a glass of apple tea next to a guy from Iran (probably the first time that happened!) who didn't speak any English and started showing me photos and film clips on his mobile. Anyway, this is a great place to come in the evening especially when it's cold outside and do what the locals do. The water pipes aren't cheap, though, at 12TL a pop.

Divan Yolu, just east of the Beyazit tram station.

Fishing at Galata Bridge

by SirRichard

At anytime you pass by the Galata Bridge you will be able to see fishermen on top. Many of them go there, and is incredible that the ferries don’t get trapped in the net of fishing threads that hang from the bridge.
Local fishermen get mostly little fishes like sardines which they keep alive in water cans that they bring with them.

I don't know why you would...

I don't know why you would want to go to a modern shopping mall in Istanbul, but if you ever want to go, you have lots of choices. One of them is Akmerkez in Etiler, which is a popular town for young locals to hang out, bustling with night life and bars. The mall was selected the 'best shopping mall' in Europe when it opened. It was certainly the only triangular mall I have seen. Quite confusing.

Cloth, ceramic ans silver shopping

by AlperIst about Shopping areas

Hi,

For clothes there are tens of big shopping centers like Akmerkez, Capitol, Nautilus, Cavahir, Galeria, Istinye Park... Also streets with many shops like Istiklal, Bagdat, Rumeli..

For ceramics Grand Bazaar, and touristic areas.

For silver go to Ortaköy.

"Taksim in Asian side"? Are you sure you have been to Istanbul? :

Cheers.
Alper
