Used clothing (second hand) in Istanbul, Turkey

by song99

Hi, I'm looking for second hand used clothing shops in Istanbul area (also Kadikoy, Sisli, etc..). These shops can also be called thrift stores, usually clothes are about 5-20TL, and sometimes shoes as well for about 20-30TL.

Do you the names/locations for these types of stores? There should be many. Please understand I am NOT looking for vintage looking (or other odd clothing). Just regular shirts, pants, winter hats, etc...for the lowest prices possible for Istanbul.

Thanks for any names or addresses you can provide, I appreciate it.

2 days ago a journalist-student threw his Nike walking shoe towards the president of IMF during a press conference in Istanbul like an Iraqi journalist did to Bush.. Istanbul is such a city even a student can throw his Nike shoe.:))

Important note: This Nike shoe was a fake Turkish product. Its price is only 20 TL at Aksaray open markets. You can find everything at every price in Istanbul if you search.

Travel Tips for Istanbul

visit the Aya Sofia, the once-Christian-cathedral, then Muslim mosque, cum musuem. Being in a city where you can drive from one continent to another, crossing on a beautful bridge, to go shopping in European Istanbul.

Main districts of Istanbull..... Kadikoy

by Erkmen

If you cross to the Asian side of Istanbul, One interesting spot is the Kadikoy market..

Kadikoy is almost like the center of Asian side of Istanbul.. As Asian side is more residential, Kadikoy, with its port is the connection to the European side of Istanbul... From Kadikoy you can have ferries to Eminonu, Karakoy,Besiktas and Bakirkoy..

The center, the port is always crowded.. And Kadikoy market near the port is well worth to see.. Shopping in the Kadikoy Market.. With all those nice fish markets, vegetables, Fruits and all kind of foods..

I was told that a number of demonstration in the Istambul Universtiy has to do with the use or abuse of scarfs. This is indeed an explosive topic...

For most of my turkish VT friends this is sensible matter that has to be carefully handled. I do agree with that stance. I do prefer to discuss about the matter than giving simply judges. When I show here this facet of the Turkish society because I loved the country and I want to learn more about it.

"Bogaz turu" Bosphorus trip

by Birsen

During the journey, you pass in front of the magnificent Dolmabahçe Palace; farther along rise the green parks and imperial pavilions of Yildiz Palace. On the edge of this park, on the coast, stands Çiragan Palace ,now restored as a grand hotel. Refurbished in 1874 by Sultan Abdülaziz, it stretches for 300 meters along the Bosphorus shore, its ornate marble facades reflecting the swiftly moving water.

The beautiful Beylerbeyi Palace lies just past the bridge on the Asian side. Behind the palace rises Çamlýca Hill, the highest point of Istanbul. You can drive here to admire the magnificent panorama of Istanbul as well as the beautiful landscaped gardens. On the opposite shore, the wooden Ottoman villas of Arnavutköy contrast with the luxurious modern apartments of neighboring Bebek. A few kilometers farther out, facing each other across the straits like sentries guarding the city, stand the fortresses of Rumeli Hisari and Anadolu Hisari. The Göksu Palace, sometimes known as Küçüksu Palace graces the Asian shore, next to Anadolu Hisari. The second link between the two continents; the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge straddles the waterway just past the two fortresses.

by kitkat-------------- about Tugra Ceramic Handicraft Center

I was recently in Istanbul, Turkey and on the first day happened upon a ceramic shoppe near my hotel. I have always appreciated ceramics and it was very easy to tell right away that this store had very fine quality ceramic pieces. I was very tempted to buy and did! The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their products [ceramics] and their history . All the ceramics are made for their store by the staff and many pieces are traditional but also it is evident that the staff are encouraged to create 'art', as one can find unusual ceramics not seen elsewhere in Turkey. There are three floors to the building and each floor gets better as you ascend the stairs.
You were never pushed to purchase an item and were free to browse as you wished. I visited many ceramic stores while I was in Turkey but always returned to this excellent store
for quality. They have tiles, dishes, bowls, teapots ,seasonal decorations, etc. and even a outdoor stove!

Their address is:Tugra Ceramic Handicraft Center,
Atmeydani Cad. No: 78,
Tel[0212] 516 43 43-44
Fax:[0212] 516 43 45

Well worth the visit. I will return on my next visit.
