Izmirs Climate
by Erkmen
The climate is called to be comfortable, with a relatively mild summer due to the refreshing breeze from the Aegean. But it is too hot in Summer time.. The breeze of Izmir is famous.. Almost every summerday in the afternoon that refreshing breeze helps you to recover.. Without the breeze ????
July and August has the most humid and hot weather.. Sometimes temperature reaches 40C in summer.. Winters are relatively warm.. As izmir has very nice summer escapes, you may not see much locals in summer. They shall be at Cesme, Kusadasi or foca.. Best time to visit shall be April, May, June... September, October...
Konak Pier
by Erkmen
There was great counterversies during the construction of this shopping place.. The old fisherman stores has been restorated and becama a big shopping mall..
However it took a long time for it to start to operate.. Now Konak pier is serving its customers with deluxe shops, a fine food court and a big movie theater..
Just near the Konak square
Sardis
by WulfstanTraveller
Sart, or Sardis, is east of Izmir, just a little past Turgutlu on the road to Usak and Ankara.
It was once the capital of the kingdom of Lydia, first country to mint coins, but not much remains. Only a tiny portion of the Lydian city remains, including some ramparts and the nearby tumuli (tombs) of the kings. The rest is pretty much Roman and part of it is heavily reconstructed or pretty much covered in dirt. There are some neat things to see, though, some mosaics, a lavatory, synagogue, and some Roman Christian remains. The reconstructed basilica is heavily rebuilt but is interesting for the fact that it offers someone a good feel for a Roman monument. There are also some fairly rare capital designs on some columns.
One of my favourite aspects of the site was seeing first hand the location and setting of the Lydian capital. Otherwise, it is kind of neat to see but for Greek and Roman remains it is very minor compared to sites like Ephesos, Aphrodisias, Priene, etc.

When you are arriving to Efeso...

When you are arriving to Efeso you'll see from the main road this classical theatre. Really huge in one side of the mountain. A nice place to enjoy. An at afternoon looking a play or discovering their acoustic. Wow! Cool!
Nice acoustic, well preserved and wonderful views.
