This page contains info on a place called Selcuk which is about 1/2 hour if that from Izmir. It was a small town with a big heart and most tourists are fed hook line and sinker when they stay at Izmir or Kudasi (sorry about the spelling but you know what I mean) I stayed in Selcuk it was a nice little town no hassles you mingle with the locals lots of walking and all the amenities any tourist will need but the beauty they were very cheap. Again I will have to say the people but also the town is so central it is only a meer 3 km walk to Ephesus and the other sites and the bus station (otagar)is very central.

Bring your belly to Turkey -...
by yesim18
Bring your belly to Turkey - it will thank you. Shish kebab (skewer-grilled lamb) is a Turkish invention and you'll find kebapçis everywhere. Lamb and fish (which can be expensive) dishes are the restaurant staples. If you're scrimping, the best cheap and tasty meal is Turkish pizza. Eggplant is the number one vegetable: look out for imam bayildi ('the priest fainted'), a delicious stuffed eggplant dish. Desserts are sweet (often honey-soaked) and tend to incorporate fruit, nuts and pastry in tempting combinations. Vegetarians aren't much catered for, but you'll never starve - making an entire meal from magnificent meze (hors d'oeuvres) is easy. The national drink is çay (tea). Beer is served almost everywhere and Turkish wines are cheap and surprisingly good. Raki, an aniseed-flavoured grape brandy, is the knockout tipple of choice.
Evil Eye Beads
by mindcrime
The famous blue/yellow/white beads that protect people from evil eye are cheap enough for every friend you have back home!
In Greece and Turkey the evil eye jewelry is very common. Colourful beads, bracelets and necklaces. This popular symbol is common to see it on almost anything, from babies to walls! The evil eye is a folklore belief that the envy elicited by the good luck of fortunate people may result in their misfortune! They believe that some people can bestow a curse on victims by the malevolent gaze of their magical eye. The most common form, however, attributes the cause to envy, with the envious person casting the evil eye doing so unintentionally. Believe it or not it’s nice to buy one for souvenir. That’s what I did! :)
