Old City, New Lights
"The City"
The city of Izmir, once known as Smyrna, supposedly goes back to 3000BC. This is one of those places in Turkey whose name just smacks of history. Read about it before you go to fully appreciate the place, but as the third largest city in Turkey, it's an impressive place, made better by it's seaside location, which, thanks to the Romans, turned Izmir into an important point for trade.
"City Coast"
The modern coastline of the city belies its ancient history. And what's up with the bird?
"Getting Directions"
The Crowne Plaza Izmir was a bit hard to find, but the locals were quite helpful.
