Unsure if havas go by it but link here
http://www.havas.com.tr/en/otobus_izmir.asp
if not there should be some local buses or take havas into town and get a shorter taxi ride.

The airport and the otogar are at two completely opposite side of the city!
If you are arriving by bus from somewhere else, ask "Service?" It`s the little bus that you bus company put at the disposal of the clients to get to the city. City center is called "Sehir merkesi". You will be guided in the gigantic terminal and have to wait for the service bus.

This bus can leave your near the train station ("train gara"), wich is kind of in the city center. You will see many bus company office. From there, you have to take a taxi; it will cost you about 35 YTL.

Travel Tips for Izmir

A city or Two cities..

by Erkmen

Izmir with its districts and surronding towns has many attractions.. The city center lays inside the Izmir Gulf and on both sides..

However the Gulf is dividing the city in to Two, and this is also creating a kind of two cities inside one city..

Izmir and Karsiyaka(Other side) two unlikely sides, Each doesnt belong to another.. And nobody wants to belong the other..

You can hear a local say "I am not from Izmir, I am From Karsiyaka..".. So.. One izmir is indeed two :)

turkish coffee

by mindcrime

Turkish coffee is a typical coffee in Balkan countries, in middle east and north Africa. The preparation is to boil some finely powdered roast coffee beans in a small pot, sometimes with sugar, and serving it into a small cup (like espresso in Italy), where the dregs settle.

Usually it served with cold water and a lokum. Watch out! Don’t drink it all! The thick layer of sludgy grounds at the bottom of the cup is left behind.

Traditionally, the pot is made of copper and has a wooden handle. It’s a good idea to bring back home a traditional small pot for Turkish coffee. Very typical local thing and useful too. I found many of them in the bazaar.

Take the time to visit Aphrodisias

by Yiannis2000

Most people visit Izmir and Ephesus at Selcuk, it is really worth the extra hour or so of driving, past Aydin, to see the impressive old town of Aphrodisias, reknown for its brothels in antiquity, now with an excellent stadium, a theater, and the temple of Aphrodite. The photo is taken from a turkish feast at a nearby location

The Citadel

by basstbn

My recollection is that these are the remains of a hilltop fortress built by the army of Alexander the Great, but I wish to do some research to verify that. It is the spot from which I was able to take the panoramic photo of the Izmir's great seaport shown at the top of my Izmir Intro page.
