How to get to the city centre

by george5b

I have a 7 hour layover in Izmir in January.
What is the best way to get to the city centre from the airport ? Is the Havas bus the best option or has the metro line been completed ? How long does the bus/train take ?
I will have around 4-5 hours net once you deduct around two hours for travel to and from the airport. What should I visit with the limited amount of time available ?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

George

hello,

take the havas bus from the airport, you may come to konak region of izmir for a small Izmir walk and visit, the journey may take 40 minutes depending on the traffic load of the city. You may also prefer to travel around so called '' KEMERALTI BAZAAR'' for 1-2 hours if you wish.Have a nice journey.

Hi George
7 h is not a big deal you need at least 2 hours ( 2 ways) to reach the city
and all you can do is just walk around in pasaport, alsancak.Do not forget about the rush hour traffic
good luck

Travel Tips for Izmir

Kushadashi, an unbelievably...

by Cestovatelka

Kushadashi, an unbelievably happy and living place about 90 km southwest of Izmir. This is the european part of Turkey and one can really enjoy life there. ONLY THAT FOR THE TIME BEING I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TRIPS TO TURKEY. Not only the political situation is not stable enough, also the earthquake situation is not the best at this moment.

Alsancak Port..

by Erkmen

Alsancak has a new ferry port.. This glass covered port has recently been constructed after the renovations at Kordon..

It is nothing to do with the old Port but can still look a modern building

Ege Barakuda

Great place to dive with either in the bay or up the coast near Cesme.Equipment and standards very high obviously as it's a 5 star IDC centre.
Last year became a National Geographic dive centre as well,so big on the enviroment.
If you haven't got something the shop is packed full of everything you should need.
Emphasis on mixed gas diving. They have almost everything.

Izmir Airport

by Aggeliki

The Airport of Izmir (Adnan Menderes Airport)is situated 15 km far from the center of Izmir. There are many domestic flight daily. If you travel from Greece, there is no direct connection to Izmir. So the most frequent flight is to Istanbul and Istanbul - Izmir. The ticket for an around trip , Athens - Istanbul - Izmir costs about 440 euro.

The Lift

by Erkmen

The elevator was constructed by Jewish businessman Nesim Levi in 1907, in order to make life easier for the local residents going to their mansions on top of the hill. These days tourists use it to admire the views of the old streets and houses of Mithatpasa. Located in the heart of Izmir’s old Jewish quarter, it is housed in a 50m-high brick tower and after refurbishment in 1992 it now contains a café on the top floor, and the original hydraulics are exhibited on the ground floor.
