Me and a friend of mine will be in Izmir in September and I am considering hiring a guide/ companion / interpreter. Our trip will be mainly leisure: going to pubs, beach, travelling to interesting places arround Izmir and maybe researching some editor's offices of local newspapers, etc.
How much would such a service cost?

Actually, you don't need one. You can find everything you need online. Plus, you can visit ohannesburger, they are very friendly and will help you with everything. Ask for Mehmet Ali, and he is very friendly & will help you with everything. This place in izmir, bornova, house of very good burgers.

and there is a town which named Þirince is very nice becouse there are lots of home made wines to drink.

The office of the tourist information is located near the Hilton in Izmir, where the busses leave for Adnan Menderes. A nice lady will inform you over all kind of pensions and hotels in the city. I will complete this with adress soon.
I was invited by a friend in a small cafe in a side street of the big shopping street in Alsancak, it was a small nice really Turkish style café where we drunk Turkish coffee and played backgammon. Nice people, most younger aged. The nicest café I stayed in Izmir. Check it out.
Well I travelled from Istanbul to Selcuk direct and it cost me 13 million Liras ($13 us dollars) The journey was an overnight journey about 12 hours and by coach. comfortable and secure. With hostess service. All coach companies provide these services cheaper then flying.ANd likewise out of Selcuk you get coaches going everywhere.
it's all walking distance but you could hire a taxi but then when you going to Ephesus you can be dropped of at the North gate and walk down to the south gate.
But I found walking more relaxing and u can enjoy more of the surroundings.
Konak Pier is reported to have been designed by Gustave Eiffel's architecture office in 1890. It is located near the city's historic center Konak Square.
It was originally built as warehouse together with the French customs house on the nearby Pasaport Quay during the renewal of Izmir's infrastructures. Konak Ferry Bridge is also located just opposite the Konak Square.
