  • Great lýttle hotel ýn Selcuk

    by

Being Australian, the name of this little hotel immediately caught my eye as we had just been to ANZAC Day and were exploring southern Turkey. The location, friendly staff and newly refurbished rooms were all a wonderful surprise for the very reasonable rates. We ended up extending our stay by a further 2 days after the hotel staff gave us advice and assistance to explore the many beautiful historic sights in the area.

I have since been back for my second visit to Turkey, and have again used Hotel Canberra as my base.

The hotel itself is in an older building, but with the recent (April 07) refurbishment of the rooms, the facilities are great and kept very clean by the hotel staff and management. Indeed, this hotel would not be out of place ýn Australia! But the staff and management are the real bonus - everyone ýs so incredibly friendly and helpful.

Selcuk is a great base for day trips to Pammukale, Ephesus or the beaches at Kusadasi, and a gorgeous little town of its own right. Don't miss the Greek Village and the amazing Saturday food market for olives and cheeses to die for. Note that the local turkish bath is closed to men on Frýday afternoons, so that's also the best time (in my opinion) for women to visit.

    Enjoy!

Unique Quality: The staff, the staff, the staff! Meeting great people is my favourite part of travelling and the management and their team are just lovely. Thank you Anna, Mehmet, Savash and Musselein (not sure on the spelling on the last two, apologies if I got it wrong!)

Directions: Opposite the museum and right next to the bus station.

Had a fantastic stay at this great little hotel in Selcuk. All rooms have just been refurbished in April 2007, the management and staff speak great English and are very helpful, breakfast is all-you-can-eat, rates are very reasonable and the location is fantastic for seeing the sights. I highly recommend it!

    Happy travels!

Unique Quality: Great staff, newly refurbished rooms.

Directions: Right next to the market in the town centre, easy walking distance to everything.

  • Selcuks boggest rip off

    by

Stayed in this hotel for two weeks on a pre booked holiday. That was my biggest mistake. From the brochure, the hotel seems very good, but do not be fooled by the photos of hotel.
Only stay in hotel as very last resort and then only if Anna is working at hotel. She is a part owner of hotel but is often ignored by the Turkish staff. If she isn't then do not stay.
Reception staff cannot speak English (Not one word). and are very sullen and unhelpfull and will stand by and let you struggle with your cases, they are dressed improperly with no uniform and slouch around the public area, even sleeping. For first 5 days of my stay the room was not cleaned and then only after I had reported that the room was close to infestation of flies.
Your breakfast will be eaten by the staff before you arrive at the breakfast table so you are left hunting the tables for scraps.
Hotel is NOT up to western standards, nor is it even up to Pension standards.
    DO NOT STAY.
    You have been warned.!!!!!!.

Unique Quality: None. Not even a bar or cafe. Even if there was you would be ignored at your request for a drink.

Directions: Entrance to Selcuk from Kusadasi
