Selcuk Hamam for Ladies
by Anna13
I am now living in Selcuk for three years and am going to the Turkish Bath every friday. It is ladies day from 12 to 16.
Sometimes in the summer it is crowded with tourists and Turkish ladies from abroad....but generally the atmosphere is relaxed and "sunny". The two masseuse are professionals and do the scrubbing and massaging professionally and with passion.
It is a nice relaxing place, stay there for 2-3 hours, sweat and relax, get a scrub and a soap massage and if you like you can have an additional cream or olive oil massage. The fee for scrubbing and soap massage is 25 YTL; the additional massage is 10 YTL. The Hamam is the place I miss most, because it is the only time when I get away from my business and can relax for a couple of hours.
Shoe blacks
by solopes
I must confess my surprise by the image of shoe blacks in Turkey. This occupation, fading in the west, gets in Turkey an interesting look, by the decoration of their working boxes. Too big to a comfortable transportation, they are, however, a true piece of art.
We all were using slippers - bad to business...
Hang out with some locals
by Snipernurse
Unlike Istanbul, I felt and experienced a sense of security in hanging out with the locals in Selcuk. The carpet dealers often enjoy just having a conversation with you, or teaching you about carpets. I enjoyed lunch a couple of occassions with a couple local Turkish guys, who are especially interested in the newest pick up lines from America. They may have some great advice for you as a traveler, and should be considered a great resource. Just use your regular common sense
A day-trip to Sirince
by backpackerbaby
Sirince is a lovely Greek village on a hill around 9km east of Selcuk. It's famous for its lovely huts and fruit wine.
From Selcuk, you can take a dolmus to get to Sirince. It will take you around 20 minutes and cost you 1.5 Million Turkish Lira.

reaching Selchuk

Another option is a flight to Bodrum, well check out what I have written on my pages about Turkey – Bodrum airport is like 40 km from Bodrum so... you go on the main road and just wait for a bus to Izmir and get on it and MAKE IT CLEAR you need to get off in Selchuk, or wait for a dolmush to Milas, then Milas – Soke, then Soke – Kushadasi and then Kushadasi – Selchuk. Trust me, it is an adventure on its own.
