Never had any problems with cockroaches in all my times in Turkey - but as for the mosquitoes, well that's a different kettle of fish!!

When you're over there, but a mosquito repellent called Off - it's in an orange and white spray and really works. Another good idea is to buy a can of fly spray and when you go out for the evening, just before you lock up, spray the room and leave. When you get back, any rogue mozzies will be dead. We have a house in Gumbet and always do this.

Before you go, nip to the chemist and buy some antihistamine tablets (just get the cheap generic brand, cheaper than named ones) just in case you get bitten 'cos they really do help with the itching.

Hope this helps.

Travel Tips for Bitez

Treatment of Stray Animals

by Ekaterinburg

There were loads of cats and dogs wandering round Bitez but they were the best treated strays I've ever come across on my travels. Every restaurant or bar we visited had a dog or cat or both sniffing around and happy to accept scraps but far from being ill-treated, time and time again we saw restaurant staff feeding them and generally treating them kindly. On the beach we saw several large dogs roaming freely, burying bones and playing with everyone who passed. These were some of the happiest, most affectionate dogs I've come across in a long time and coming from a culture where a dog off a leash is almost a public order offense, it made a very refreshing change. Seeing scrawny, starving cats really upsets me and I am happy to report that I didn't see a single hungry looking cat in Bitez.

I don't know if this happens everywhere in Turkey but top marks to the locals in Bitez who could teach the world a thing or two about kindness to animals.

CAMEL BEACH

by whitecliff62

We visited this beach on a boat trip around the bays of Bodrum, it was called Camel beach because there were camels on the beach, makes sence i suppose hahahahahahaha, this was a lovely beach with deep soft sand and cool clear water which was ideal for swimming on a hot day as this was
