Nice Suprise!

I visited Hotel Baba Gumbet (Direct Holidays) in May 2005. We booked a last minute cheap break away and weren’t expecting much. I was very surprised! We booked bed and breakfast and as there are so many lovely restaurants to eat at in Gumbet, I was very glad. The rooms vary, we had a double room with a small French balcony, it was cleaned every day and was adequate for our needs. You can order air conditioning, I would recommend this as some of the discos open very late and the music may disturb you if you left the windows open. The hotel is right on the beach and the sunbeds are free to hotel guests, the staff are very friendly, the pool area is very nice and the rest of hotel is very clean. Gumbet is full of bars and restaurants (very cheap), you do get hassled a little by men wanting you to eat at their restaurant, or wanting you to buy something from their shops, but that's Turkey! The location is great, right in the centre of Gumbet; I would recommend this hotel for couples that want a relaxing beach holiday but a bit of life at night and don't want to pay a fortune for it!

Turkish Delight !

We have just returned from 2weeks in Gumbet, fabulous holiday, weather couldn't be better, friendly locals. The hotel was excellent, very clean perfect location for beach lovers, kids loved the pool and the snooker & pool tables. Can't say a bad thing about the hotel would definately go back. You must try the boat trips especially the one to Rabbit Island that Roy at the hotel organises. There are some good restaurants in Gumbet, try Mary's and Barumba very friendly but not pushy. We will most certainly return to Gumbet and stay at the Baba hotel.

not bad!

We stayed at the baba hotel for two weeks in june. It was our first time to turkey so didnt really know what to expect! We read a couple of the reviews before we went but i must say we were pleasantly suprised! The room was spotlessly clean the cleaners work constantly, they even folded our clothes up for us. The bathroom was also spotless, the only hiccup was no hot water, we informed reception and the maintainance man fixed it within ten mins. We had a room on the ground floor which looked straight out to the pool. The balcony was quite big enough room for a table and two chairs and to hang your washing out! We did however meet a couple who were in a second floor room, they had no balcony or windows so ask for a ground floor room! The breakfast wasnt very good to be honest it was very basic, toast, cereal, salad, cheese and that was about it. My son is seven he hates uht milk so lived on cucumber and toast for breakfast for a fortnight! all in all, the hotel is very clean but beware of the state of the toilets in the disco bar at night not very marvellous!! Before we went to turkey we were told it was really cheap, but to be honest it works out to be about the same as anywhere else, beware of some staff around gumbet, they bill you at the end of the evening and we found a few things added on that we didnt have! we found a really good restaurant called the mistral you go out the back of the hotel, turn left down the beach its the second restaurant from the end, its really good food and if you have kids they eat for free. also you get a free bottle of wine if you order a meal off the main menu. To sum it all up the hotel and staff were great, the weather gorgeous, the country lovely, but the people rude and pushy. I would go back to turkey again but not to gumbet, theres not a huge amount to do there and its smaller than you think! If youve got very young kids its fine my seven year old got fed up with crazy golf and pool after two weeks! I hope this review helps! Any questions i will be happy to help!

Me and my partner arrıves at the hotel at 3am and the hotel staff were smilıng room basıc but nıce breakfast not to bad everything ıs there ın the centre. Some nights we were spoilt for choice we often wandered around to check out the surroundıng area we were located beach front and the beach is lovely. Not sutable for young children not a lot of thıngs for them to do unless you took them to a pub called mermaids whıch ıs good ıf you like a dance they have people show you the moves to dıfferent songs good atmosphere. Would go back again to the same hotel

love gumbet

by TripAdvisor Member trishg123

I (mum 48) went with my daughter (17) and we love Gumbet! We are booking again for next year - unfortunately not at this hotel.

Previous peeps have described it as basic - bit of an understatement really! It must have been built in the 60's and still has the same plumbing and fixtures as then! However It was cleanish and the staff are lovely.

Beware you will only get a tiny balcony and only if you pay a supplement. We were put into a corridor with 8 rooms and no balcony at all. Felt like a council flat! But on the plus side we are now good friends with our fellow corridor residents!

Ask for rooms in 500, 600 or 700 series they have balconies or terraces and overlook pool. Or room 120 which is amazing - jacuzzi etc (only 1 in hotel) but no balcony.

Also we were half board. The food was OK but we only ate there a couple of times. They do a lovely English breakfast about 3 hotels along at Sami, and there is a fantastic chicken place on the corner opposite hotel entrance which I really do recommend, dinner + drink for about 5 english pounds. Next door but 1 is the hotel Magnific which have happy hour from 6-7 pm and 11-12 pm, 2 cocktails for price of 1.

Watch prices at China Town - v expensive in there.

Bar street is a blast and has clubs (free entrance) karioke and bars.

Be careful with the Turkish men although they are lovely and chat you up non stop (which is quite amusing and a marvellous ego boost) do not take any of them seriously. Also should you say yes you will be their girlfriend they will become ridiculously possessive and can be quite scarey - so beware! I'm sure they are just as possessive with ALL their English girlfriends, and they usually have a Turkish girlfriend/wife at home patiently waiting.

BUT The staff are fabulous and although we won't be staying at this hotel we fully intend to visit often - especially the disco bar!

Last hint the beach is cooler than round the pool - and the waiters keep popping round to get you drinks.

Have fun - we certainly did!

Best Holiday Ever !!

I thought the Hotel was brilliant, The staff were very very friendly, the bar in the night is very lively, and if your half board the food in the evening is lovely.

The night life in the area is brialliant, people can be a big pest but you have to ignore them.

The beach is lovely, and the weather was boiling (42degrees), the rooms are cleaned everyday and clean towells are replaced with dirty ones. The room is very basic but it is good enough. The air-con (2pound a day) is well worth it, its really good, and does the job. The only bad thing was the showers which leaked everywhere leaving the bathroom soakin, but it dried out.

I only went to the hotel for a week, and i was very sad leaving. So me and my boyfreind will deff be going back next yr 4 longer. Shame about the dodgy turkish airline mind. 11/10 4 this hotel.

What a superb hotel.
Receptionists - all brilliant, happy and helpful.
Other Staff - all brilliant, happy and helpful. Nobody can do enough for you. Location - perfect; all the action out of the front entrance, the beautiful beach area directly outside the rear entrance.
Pool - Massive. Plenty of loungers. Clean & tidy. Great atmosphere.
Pool Bar - THE place to be. Staff (especially Hagi) so kind and friendly. Stay as late as you like.
Food - Only tried breakfast. Repetitive, but plentiful.
Rooms - A bit dated, with only basic facilities. Did their job.
Resort - Perfect whether you want it quiet or crazy. Great restaurants, shops, bars and weather.
Excursions - Great value for money.
Cleanliness - Immaculate, everywhere. Beds/towels changed EVERY DAY.
Entertainment - To be found all around the resort, not at the Baba.

I could go on, but won't. We have always vowed to NEVER visit the same place twice, but I now feel we shall be retuning to the Baba for many years to come. Loved it! As did EVERY other guest we spoke to.
Just go, you'll see what I mean!

will go again and again!!!

Our first visit to Turkey, also first holiday without the children. We absolutley loved this hotel!!!!!!!.ALL staff exceptionally friendly. We were not too happy with the room we were first allocated,as soon as we asked to be moved it was done!!!!!.This hotel is by far the cleanest i have ever stayed in.The rooms are very basic and could do with some upgrading, however,it was cleaned every day and sheets were changed every single day!!!!!.The resort was just perfect, perfect beach to the back of the hotel and shops and restaurants to the front. The pool bar was where we spent quite some time in the evenings where we made a lot of friends. The bar staff, especially HAGI made it even more comfortable to stay there.Always said we would never visit the same place twice,im definatley going to make an execption with the BABA HOTEL.Hope to take my children there next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are a party of 14 parents and kids flying into bodrum next july for a holiday in Torba.
Our villa owner has offered to provide the transfer at 140GBP each way. Is that reasonable or is there a cheaper way?
Many thanks.

RE: Bess

by stappm
