Bodrum budget hotel and one day cruise

by ChioQuiroz

Hi Travelers!!

Anyone has any budget hotel recommendations? I'm think to spend US$70 to US$80 a night.
Also, I've been reading about one day cruises from Bodrum. Does anyone have any tips or ideas?

Thanks

This is where I stayed, I have more info in my Bodrum tips, but this is the website. www.hotelgulec.com
I did a day trip to Kos in Greece which I really enjoyed, just went and booked the ticket on the morning I wanted to go.

Travel Tips for Bodrum

Currency: YTL - New Turkish Lira

by Lyndra

The YTL or New Turkish Lira is the currency you will need for your holiday to Turkey.
There are 100 YKr (Kurus) to 1 YTL. The exchange rate is generally much better if you change your money in Turkey rather than changing it in home - I always take a small amount of Lira and the rest of my money as Sterling/Euro/Dollar travellers cheques to change in the town.
You can exchange at banks and money changers but you can also change it in many shops at a very good rate and usually no charges.
If you receive old Turkish Lira in change you must refuse it as banks will not change it for you anymore (The old notes are in millions so are easily recognisable and this is not as much of a problem now that most of it is out of circulation).
Bodrum has plenty of cash points (ATMs) but you will obviously be charged the banks withdrawal rate for foreign currency and atthe daily exchange rate.
Rough exchange rates are as follows:
- $1 = 1.38 YTL
- £1 = 2.68 YTL
- 1 Euro = 1.80 YTL

About Turkish people

by andrea.d

I would say that local custom in Turkey is that all the Turkish people are extremely polite, nice and very helpful when it comes to tourists. For example, near our hotel there was one small shop (on the pic) where you could buy newspapers, and the owners were so nice and always with a smile on their faces! It’s just something that you don’t see every day!

Hand made sandals

by erendilight

Hand made sandals
Skilled artisans can make you a pair of snugly fitting leather sandals in the traditional Aegean style. You will find craftsmen in the centre of Bodrum - like Ali Usta and others. You can either order or try one of the pairs they have in stock. Even Mike Jagger has one of these Bodrum hand made sandals of Ali Usta... sandals for a fresh breath of your feet:) that depends what kind of o sandal you wish or how long it takes to produce it... between 40 to 200 Euros.

Hasan's place

by andrea.d about Hasan's place

This is another restaurant with very friendly staff and good food. I ate pizza in this restaurant, and it was great. It was “Hasan’s special pizza” or something like that… It was a pizza with chicken, never tried it before, but it was good.
